What you may need to know.
1. Thor: Love and Thunder is remarkable for a few reasons, and there’s plenty for fans to get excited about. Now that the delays are firmly in the past.
2. This charts new territory for the MCU, as it is the first time a character will have had four standalone movies to themselves.
3. Chris Hemsworth is Thor once more, reuniting with director Taika Waititi and Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster. If you recall, Jane was not in Thor: Ragnarok (2017), and her absence was explained in the awkward confirmation that she had dumped Thor. Maybe Thor: Love and Thunder will explain why?
4. And yes, she will get to wield Mjölnir.
5. Tessa Thompson is back as Valkyrie, in her new role as the leader of New Asgard after Avengers: Endgame (2019) saw Thor head off into space with the Guardians of the Galaxy (great Movie btw and brilliant soundtrack!).
6. Christian Bale, meanwhile, plays an unspecified “villain“, Russell Crowe appears in a cameo as Zeus, and singer Jenny Morris is in an unconfirmed role.
7. Matt Damon is also reprising his role as an Asgardian thespian alongside Sam Neill and Luke Hemsworth. New to the troupe is Melissa McCarthy playing actress Hela (her real-life husband Ben Falcone is also cast in an undisclosed role, though we have to imagine he’s part of the troubadour group).
9. Other returning cast members could include Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki and Mark Ruffalo as Professor Hulk, but the only other one we’re confident of is Waititi’s once again voicing fan-favourite Korg
Andy’s verdict: Hammer time.
Release: In cinemas July 8.

Bale is playing Gorr the God Butcher.
And Taika Waititi is the MVP of the MCU.
After Edge of Tomorrow came out, there was a lot of talk online on ‘how to get that Emily Blunt body’ with instructors commending her dedication and sheer grit, I’d like to think that there is a new line of folks attending gyms later this year looking to emulate Portman and her formidable musculature.
Film looks awesome too.
Is it setting up Thors role to become a womans role?
Thor Odinson isn’t the first person to wield the hammer and title.
One of them was a lizard dude.
And a horse.
It’s a very diverse hammer.
we’ve seen Frog Thor in the MCU as well. Though a quick Google suggests that that was Thor transformed into a frog but retaining his ‘worthiness’ so maybe doesn’t count.
There was a really good run of the comics with Jane Foster as Thor for a while, which this is clearly adapting, along with the Godkiller storyline. Going to be a crowded movie…
Women make you uncomfortable or something AC?
Just prefer stories where instead of changing traditional male characters to female characters (vast majority are a financial flop at the box office) that they go with an original story line – Sigourney Weaver Alien franchise (brilliant) for example. Tide is turning again on this forced story line as people are not bothering to spend their cash on it.
It is in the ‘original’ storyline, ie the Marvel comics. Very succesful run, too.
Thor Odinson will still be in it, as Thor. Jane Foster will be a different Thor. We are getting into the multi-verse ends of things now so these sorts of ‘now he’s a bad guy’, ‘now she’s a magician’ flip-flops are going to become the norm until Marvel move on.
I just don’t really like the Marvel movies.
Calling anyone who wields Mjolinir Thor is like Sam Steve Rogers because he has the shield now, but sure details aren’t important
