Last time I saw a film involving gondolas in Venice, it was Moonraker.  While Depp does wear a white evening jacket, I don’t think he’s going to be harassed by a steel-toothed henchman. Paul Bettany without a facial tattoo will have to do.

Comedic buddy-cop movies seem to be back in vogue, with this following on from Kevin Smith’s Cop Out.

Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell are the mismatched misfits with The Rock, Samuel L Jackson and Steve Coogan helping to bring the lolz.

Early IMDB review: “Will Ferrell is Funny Again!”

Release Date (Ireland): 17th of September

Yet another comic book-based movie, this time with a man in chaps rather than tights.  Josh Brolin is the titular cowboy/bounty hunter Hex, with Megan Fox playing a hooker with (you won’t believe this) a heart of gold.

They’re up against John Malkovich as a Confederate General who wants to re-start the American Civil War. It went back for more than a few re-shoots to ‘expand’ on Fox’s character. That’s never a good thing.

Release Date (Ireland): This Friday, September 3.

Look at Gorgeous George, all brooding and deep as a good film assassin should be. He’s even got little assassin-ette to keep him company. Expect long silences over coffee as George pins her with a stare and, if she’s lucky, a smirk.  There’ll be talk of honour and escape and he’ll end up dead in a field.

Release Date (Ireland): 26 November 2010

The trailer, which makes Megamind look like a paint-by-numbers take on Superman, only tells part of the story. Our hero triumphs over his do-gooder nemesis, but then realises he’s nothing without his foil (a bit like us and The Irish Times). Here’s hoping it isn’t too smug and self satisfied.

Bonus points to Will Ferrell for turning up to the Megamind panel at Comic Con in full costume:

Release date (Ireland): December 3.
