On Saturday last  a tornado struck North Carolina.

Steven Hoag was on the phone in his car. And literally shooting the breeze with zen-like serenity.

Steven Hoag: “Yup. Right now. Trying to take pictures of it too. I’ll have to be recording it, that’s even better…

Oh, half a mile. Yup. I mean it’s, I’d say it’s coming straight toward me.

Yeah but. Yeah. But it’s not one those, I would say you know like, devastation or terrible. I mean it’s picking up leaves. I see stuff in it but it’s not… it’s just twisting. Oh, there goes a flash. It’s blowing up some power lines now.

Now… Yeah I’m stopped. I’m in a parking lot. Can you hear the rain now?

[inaudible] … leaves and trees. The nearest tree to me is probably, probably um, down the road from your house to the corner.

There goes the roof of a house and…

[inaudible]. Hang on. I love you.

I’m OK, you know. My truck isn’t but I’m OK

Yep. I’m OK. Still good. I’m still good, just, uh, now I got a problem with what I’m driving. It’s damaged.

No, uh, it looks like roofing blew off a building and got me. I mean, I’m OK. Don’t worry for me, but…”
