If you enjoyed Jason Statham’s ultra-violent use of a hurley, you’ll love MGM’s literally wacky “Hurling” (1936), narrated by Pete Smith, scripted and directed by David Miller (who went on to direct the Marx Brothers and classic unsung 1973 JFK conspiracy movie Executive Action) and filmed in a studio back-lot with a cast made up of Irish-looking “fellas”.
Unless it’s the actual Cork team of 1936 and that really is Jimmy Barry Murphy at 1.51.
