The National Library of Ireland posted this photo of O’Connell Street, Dublin (from 1969) on to their excellent Flickr stream two days ago and wondered: why are there holes in the ornate bollards? It’s “as though they were vents for something below ground”…
Any thoughts?
Other nuggets include
The oddly hyphenated provinces of Ireland in the Parnell Monument: UL-STER, CON-NACHT, LEIN-STER, MUN-STER. There’s the No. 8 bus on its way to Dalkey, passing by Forte’s Cafe, a Dublin institution, and a cute but overloaded Fiat car complete with L plate, plus a snapshot of Dublin fashion in the Spring or summer of 1969. We don’t have a more precise date for this photo, but wondering if those election(?) posters on the lamp post could help us…
