Slavina Velvova and two-year-old daughter Tsveta from Bulgaria at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, Dublin, this afternoon, to see the most expensive coin in the world. The 1933 Double Eagle is probably the most valuable half ounce of gold in the world.
The coin at IMMA (above) until tomorrow is one of just two 1933 Double Eagles saved by the US Mint (nearly all were melted down when the gold standard ended). In 2002, a 1933 Double Eagle sold for $7.59 million dollars.
