Yesterday’s Corpus Christi procession in Blackwater, Co Wexford.

Young girls (‘brides of Christ’) placing flower petals before the feet of a priest who is carrying the Eucharist and being shaded from the sun by four gentlemen carrying an ornate four-handled umbrella.

That’s how they roll in Blackwater.

UPDATE: We have been informed by commenters below that the girls are laying the petals in front of the wafer (the priest is holding) rather than the cleric himself. The wafer represents the body of Jesus Christ and the canopy is to protect ‘Him’ from the sun. None of which is in the least bit odd. Apologies to all.

This morning.

Erected by Independent TD Mick Wallace who sez:

“The Fiscal Treaty has no positives for the people of Ireland. It involves rules that will curtail flexibility for future governments on public spending, it involves a threat that we may not be able to access funds if we happen to need a second bailout, it also involves further cuts on the ordinary people in order to meet the new rules, and it involves fines if we fail to meet the fiscal targets.”

You may have noticed our ad space is adorned with Fine Gael’s urge for people to vote’ Yes’ on Thursday.

You may also have muttered: “What the yikes is all that about?”

The party approached us a while back to book the space. Owing to our own profound austerity instead of saying ‘No’ we ummed and ahhed for a bit but finally decided to run the ad for nothing.

We have offered the same free space to the ‘No’ treaty side tomorrow and will then run ads containing a mixture of the two positions on Wednesday.
