The 1L bottle of Hennessey wrapped in the beach towel… yeah you can forget about that.

No fan of Ryanair, but they subcontract their baggage handling so no sure you can really blame them for this one.
Zynks
That is a poor excuse for Ryanair. They are responsible for all aspects of the service since they have made the commitment to deliver the service.
DaithiG
Then they should find a new company to subcontract to.

If you pay Ryanair to transport your luggage and it isn’t done with due care and attention then yes you really can blame Ryanair and only Ryanair.
JLK
it is airport staff not ryanair staff that handle baggage in airports.
everyone here is deluded if you think standard practice is to carry pieces of luggage from point to point and place gently on trailers, planes, belts etc in airports across the world. in any flight luggage is likely to be tossed multiple times. they carried what looked to be the most delicate item, the buggy. anything else fragile should be just carried on with you.

Just so we’re clear, they are airport staff, not friendly (or unfriendly) Ryanair staff.
Having seen chuckers (that’s what they’re known as colloquially) out the window of many flights, this, very low, level of care is standard.

i know i love the folk blaming ryanscare, its funny!!

I thought the baggage handlers worked for the airport, not the airline.
bob
It’s Bergamo airport ground staff not ryanair.
Simon
I’m sure these ‘chuckers’ are very friendly.
Am I Still on This Island
Once seen a bus drive over bags at heathrow airport that dropped off a luggage vehicle on front. Bus had time to stop, avoid, but didn’t give a monkeys

Two things: firstly this is Bergamo airport staff. Not Ryanair.
Secondly, I am always amazed how Ryanair can call this airport Milan. It’s like calling an airport near Dundalk as Dublin.
Pedantic Pat
The airport themselves call it Milan too I think.
It’s not as if Malpensa is in the City Centre anyway!
Vinny
The airport doesn’t call itself Milan.
It’s called Bergamo Orio Al Serio airport or Caravaggio International Airport.
Malpensa is a dump of an airport. Linate all the way!

Bloody Bergamo Aiport. If you need to wait over night the security won’t allow you to sleep anywhere, not on the floor, not on chairs, not in the lovely little chapel at the back (which i recommend highly for daytime napping). They walk around during the night waking everyone up ever hour or two.

At the end of the day it’s a Ryanair 737 that is unceremoniously shitting luggage onto the tarmac only to (and this is gross) re-ingest it!

People love finding something wrong with Ryanair…
In addition to the comments raised above, there is no way of knowing that the items contained within the luggage were fragile, indeed even Ryanair have labels that can be put on bags to denote the fact. They handle the child’s pram in a fairly gentle manner, bags of clothes don’t tend to smash when chucked about.

Being realistic, how much care do you think, any baggage handlers in an airport take when handling thousands of bags a day? Not a whole lot I would imagine given the volume and tedious nature of the job.

OK… If and when you are unfortunate to fly with Ryanair, here’s how you avoid their “quality” bag handlers…
Firstly, this only applies to those who are carrying on luggage as checked luggage is loaded in the normal manner. Also, note the bags in the video are passed from from the other side of the plane…. This is important.
You see, Ryanair are forcing more people at the gate to check their luggage and offering this as a ‘complimentary service”…. They tag the bag with a yellow tag and place a sticker on your boarding card….
You’ve probably printed this yourself on a sheet of A4 – this is torn in half at the gate by Ryanair. So, you are made leave your bag at the bottom of the stairs, then when boarding and the steward also checks your boarding sheet for the sticker. If you have the stiker on your bag, you will be forced to leave it back down.
So, here’s the trick….. have handy a second, pre-torn-in-half boarding card and when making your way to the stairs, quick as a flash rip the yellow tag from the bag’s handle.
When boarding the plane with your bag, display the boarding sheet – without the yellow sticker – and place your bag in the overhead bin. There will be loads and loads of room…. They force bags in the hold as it makes for a quicker turn around.
So there you have it. With Ryanair, it’s quite easy to play them at their own game sometimes.

You only have to check a bag in at the gate if you have two with you and you’re towards the end of the queue. Something like the first 90 people get their second cabin bag on and everyone after that has to drop it off. If you want to avoid this, get there early or just don’t bring a second cabin bag.

I understand that Ryanair are one of the few airlines who make musicians sign a waiver when putting instruments (no matter how well flightcased) onto their aircraft. This absolves Ryanair of any liability for damage to said instruments. I suggest that musicians play this video to Ryanair staff every time they check in.

People are surprised?
Breakables in carry-on, clothes and expendable stuff in main luggage.
stipes
They were the carry-ons being transferred to the hold…
Spartacus
The passenger filming this ran the very real risk of being disembarked from the aircraft had the cabin crew noticed that (s)he was willfully ignoring the safety briefing heard in the background.

If you watch the clip on youtube the racism in the comments is overwhelming.

To be fair, the clip could have been a shot of someone eating an ice cream and still the racism on the YouTube comments would be overwhelming.

Fairly common practice I’d say. Reminds me of flying into Cork on a holiday charter a few years ago before the new terminal was built, and due to having small kids we were last off the plane. All the luggage had been loaded onto a flatbed van, a Transit or maybe slightly bigger, the cases were stacked fairly high on the back of the van which was driven to the very small unloading area. When the van arrived at the belt, a man jumped onto the flatbed and just pushed the stack of cases over onto the belt, The ones at the top fell about 8 feet and some bounced off the belt onto the ground. I’ve always bought cheap suitcases since that.

wonder would this have been posted here if it was a GermanWings or Luxair or Air France or plane? Or any other carrier?
Just back from flying with them with 21 Scouts. They let us away with a couple of overweight bags and a one letter mixup on a passenger name, on both outward and return flights. Definitely seem friendlier

Its just cos its a ryanair plane. It was BA or AerLingus the bags are handed around as if it were there own child.
