Confiscating a haul of drugs likely worth 25-50% of this ‘street value’ at wholesale, which will immediately be replaced by a new shipment within a months time, is not exactly the best defense for the navy’s existence. Plus it does generally raise the larger financial utility question of the whole war on drugs business – not something the navy comes out of well.
Rescuing Irish citizens lost at sea, policing of Irish maritime economic rights, internal brown water navy duties etc would be rather better answers if you find yourself getting asked why we need a navy regularly.

I have looked it up and it is addictive actually. I think what you meant to say is that it’s not physically addictive. However like many recreational drugs one does build up a tolerance for it fairly steadily requiring more and more of the drug for the same high

Broadsheet your obvious pro-navy agenda is getting a bit old now. How about a few posts for those of us who are at best ambivalent about the existence of the navy?
Personally, I think there’s benefit in looking at legalisation of a lot of currently illegal drugs, including cocaine. At least then, there can be se element of quality control, regulation, etc of the market.
However, it’s currently illegal and I think it’s great to take a chunk (however small) out of criminals’ pockets. Drug OCGs are for the most part pure scum.
