The third annual Films from the Southern Mediterranean season kicks off in Sligo TODAY (2nd) and continues at various venues around the country until October 20.

This touring programme, compiled  by access>CINEMA, is a chance to experience the often overlooked work of gifted filmmakers and to discover “a new perspective on the personal stories hiding behind headlines”.

The Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge and Sligo Film Society at The Model have joined previous venues, The Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray, Triskel Christchurch in Cork and Galway Film Society at The Town Hall in hosting the selection for the first time.

This year’s season includes The Bag of Flour from Morocco, Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem from Israel and Ladder to Damascus from Syria.

The Bag of Flour’s co-writer, Pierre-Olivier Mornas, will be in attendance at the Galway (5th) and Bray (6th) screenings and will participate in a post-show Q&A. For advance tickets contact the individual venue’s box office.
