He seems like a very nice chap, but does P McG need funding to help him play golf? I would have thought he was comfortably enough off.
I don’t think it works like that – the way its structured for sporting grants, you often get awarded on achievement – in many cases the top level sponsored professional who doesn’t need it will get more than the struggling amateur who is trying to break thru.
It’s two distinct stories here. 1m given to the olympic fund (which does seem very tiny) and the list of names is the list of people in the running to be put in charge of that money as team manager.
Sorry, I have that wrong. They’re the individual team leaders and I don’t know how that relates to the monies.
