Emeritus Pope Bendict who is 87 and his lifetime “assitant”, the dashing Georg Ganswein, now 57, could show Fry and his intended a thing or two!

This kind of comment cheapens male friendship and relationships. It derides the idea that men cannot be loyal friends to each other without being labelled as gay. It is both a homophobic and anti-man comment.

Breda O’Brien is that you? I am reminded of your lamenting the gay agenda insinuating that Bert and Ernie might be gay. Male friendships are wonderful things but where they both actually live together and one spends quite a large amount of time deriding gay people, this does allow one a certain leeway to query their union with perhaps a degree of humour.

I’m glad you find gay people, and/or people you have decided are secret gay people, hilarious.

Doesn’t the young lad look only Delighted. Have to say that picture speaks a thousand words, one of which is Creepy.

      1. Alison

Leave it out – the younger fellow is a 6 foot 27 year old. It’s not as creepy as your vivid imagination leads you to believe.

        1. Sam

He’s 27? From that photo I wouldn’t have guessed it. I’d say he still gets asked for ID by bouncers… still good luck to the pair of them.

    1. Mister Mister

And equally an older man marrying a younger woman is a bad advertisement for heterosexual marriage ?

      1. ahyeah

Yes, it is. A friend’s father (67) has just married a young lady (28) from Brazil. I asked him what he saw in her. He said, “felatio three times a day”. Can’t say I approve but can’t really argue with his reasoning either.

        1. scottser

surely a more pertinent question is what does she see in him? a healthy bank balance, maybe?

        1. Rob_G

You may wish to brace yourself, as I have some big news for you about Graham Norton, Elton John & Liberace…

          1. Anomanomanom

Really!!!!!! You mean there is more than two gay people in the world! I didn’t really take much notice to his personal life. If I hadn’t checked broadsheet I still wouldn’t know.

Well, it’s a decided improvement on your other searing contributions of “thick” and “spa” this morning. I’m sure Stephen will certainly reconsider now that an erudite soul such as your good self has proclaimed him a “tit”. One waits with bated breath for the next instalment of your vivid, expressive eloquence.

one’s good self writes in a decidedly pretentious manner and less eloquently than one presumably supposes.

And all the drama about President Sarakosi’s brothers 44 getting engaged to one of the Olsen twins 27 two years ago and so many years between them. Others deemed it creepy. Sure, good luck to the lot if them. I might find a toy boy myself in a few years… : )

    1. Alison

A teenage twink at 27?! A twonk maybe but at 27, the halcyon days of twinkdom are well and truly past. Try again.

    1. Alison

But you cared enough to click, read, scroll down to the comments and reply. Yes, you don’t appear to care in the slightest. It just passed you by. Please.

    2. Jordofthejungle

Yeah, yeah. This is the same crap that you see when someone opens up about being gay. Amazingly, all those most virulently opposed to marriage for same-sex couples never seem “to care” about someone’s sexuality if they come out. And they want you to know just how much they don’t care by shouting it from the rooftops.

Like the Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh, what this lot don’t want or like, is visibility and openness. You know, it might just seem that there are more than one or two gays in the world.

Sorry Rotide, not buying your “couldn’t care less” spiel.

    3. rotide

Wow you’re some fellow aren’t you Jord?

You infer that i’m against gay marriage because of that comment? How about you go f*pp yourself? What do you infer from that? That I’m against sex or just that I think you’re an idiot? You choose.

I’m the off smokes and irritable.

I’m not against gay marriage as I’ve said before. I’m against the complete hypocrisy of people like yourself though. The royal wedding got an absolute hammering round these parts, as did Kim and Kanye (rightly so in the latter imo).

      1. Jordofthejungle

Well then I’m putting you down as piqued because of dramatic nicotine depletion.

Call me old fashioned but there is quite a lot on Broadsheet which I couldn’t care less about but I don’t tend to declare it in the comments. I simply express my indifference by not paying the post the slightest bit of attention.

      2. Sidewinder

Rotide you are king of bullsh*t inferrals and assumptions. Get off the horse before you hurt yourself.

        1. Caroline

Seriously? He said nothing to warrant some self-righteous rant about the tactics of homophobes. Justifying it on the basis of something else he did some other time is a bit crap.

          1. Sidewinder

He’s complaining about hypocrisy while giving out to people about making assumptions. Ergo his previous behaviour is relevant.

  2. GiGi

Jeeeeez, I’d say at times It’ll be hard work…

I saw a documentary on Elton and he came across as a moody Lovie. Fry has himself admitted that it’s not easy for people around him when his bi-polarity hits it’s dark phases.

On a more serious note… when the gloss wears off… Living with depression is hard work for the person with it and even more difficult at times for the person supporting the person with it. Hope they’ll have happy lives.

    1. Wayne.F

Oh dear, both are adults of consenting age! A very significant and important difference to this photo

      1. Frilly Keane

        What money?

Is he even worth a couple of mill?
Its not like he’s in JK Rowland levels of sales or has his buddy Emma’s fee status or writing credits

Sur that lad, if he’s any good, ( I understand he’s a stand up) would potentially have more earning power over the next 30 yrs.

  3. ahjayzis

The reaction to this is really disappointing.

I know tonnes of gay guys around my age (28) who are exclusively into older men. Successful guys, with their own career and money, it’s just personal taste.

    Big f*pping deal.

    1. bob

      And yet entirely unsurprising.

I wouldn’t hold out much hope of ever being anything other than disappointed by BS commenters.

    2. Anne

      Yeah..
I’ve dated someone who was 22 years older than me, and he hadn’t a bean, but he had a lovely personality.

      1. Bluebeard

I met him in Grogans last week. He was asking for you. He seemed sad so i bought one of his pictures off the wall.

  4. Medium Sized C

You need to post a picture of a Straight Couple who aren’t engaged being miserable for balance, broadsheet.

  5. Owen

I’d find this equally awkward if it was a hetero couple. I do hope they are happy, but an age gap that big has to have a lot of limitations in a relationship.
