The Story House is a  small, very cosy Irish, non-profit that aims to provide “real support for developing writers” of all ages .

The workshop is inspired by and has been given the thumb up from The Arvon Foundation

Set in tranquil woodlands near Colligan, Dungarvan, Co Waterford, The Story House will run its first 5 day writing course (on Short Fiction), from Mon. 23rd to Sat. 28th March 2015. The course will be led by experienced and award-winning writers and tutors Julian Gough and Susie Maguire. Their mid-week guest writer will be Donal Ryan (The Spinning Heart, The Thing About December), winner of The Guardian First Book Award…

This inaugural course is being offered for the special fee of €595 which includes: 5 nights accommodation; full board; all workshops; one-to-one sessions with each writer to discuss your work; time and space to write; reading & discussion with guest writer. There are only two places remaining for this course. You might like to check with your local Arts Office as to what supports they may offer to help you attend a course at The Story House.

Forget forking out 595 Euros and take the following advice:
    Show rather than tell
    Lay off the adjectives
Don’t confuse a thesaurus with literary prowess. We live in the age of the internet.
Beards, self publication and quill in hand does not translate as ” I am a writer”.

Good luck with it, looks like an attractive mix of location (yeah, JK Rowling might have penned the first Potter books in a coffee shop, but she was in olde Edinburgh which oozes deep navy magic and stars) and support. And €595 for full board and one-to-one support looks like a steal. Best wishes to you all.
