Finally!
Would make a nice candle holder on the mantelpiece…
What kind of a prick…
Flagellation once again

whats your point?
Ah yes, a with-it right-on liberal being all bigoted about the culture that she’s inherited, grew up in and benefited from.
She wouldn’t be so quick to put up smarmy posts about Jews on Passover, would she?
Or how about she tell her employers (the Irish Independent, no less) that she’ll need 24-hour protection because she has this really cool, right-on bigoted idea in her head. She’s found a photo on Google images mocking Islam that she wants to put up on Twitter…
What a stupid, stupid attention-seeking click-bait fool who masquerades as a journalist. It’s nasty people like her who have played a large role in the destruction of Irish journalism and have given talented journalists a bad name to the point now where you’d be mad to even consider a career as a journalist in Ireland.
Well done Colette Browne. Next time you’re busy being outraged, bashing the church and demanding to be taken seriously, we’ll know to call up your Twitter account for a little giggle.
Do you know what? I kind of agree with you here. Fupp it, if someone would be happy with that as a pressie, let ’em off. These people are easy targets.
There are far more nefarious things to be snarky about in the Catholic Church than crap like this.
Yeah, but it is pretty weird isnt it?
It’s rotten! I was going to say it’s harmless, but I wouldn’t like to be battered in the face with it.
Some people would pay good money to be smacked in the face with that
Yeah. This is what happens when you push down sexuality; it pops up in very weird forms. Such as “GENUINE REAL THORNS EXPERIENCE THE PAIN OF CHR!ST111!!!111!!”
This crown is very 50 shades of grey
Yes, I’m sure Miss Browne would have lots of click-bait opinions about unspecified “nefarious things” going on in the church. She would know all about that alright.
Well, at least she’s not an anti-Semite: https://twitter.com/colettebrowne/status/567389928242556928 She’s just an anti-Catholic and actively promotes the social acceptability of anti-Catholicism in Ireland.
at least she puts forward an opinion in her own name.
Let her put up a anti-Islamic jibe about the start of Ramadan in her own name so. April 3rd (Passover) is coming up – perhaps she could get some Google images ready?
It takes so much more courage to be and anonymous troll, don’t you know.
ABM… the thorny crown is on sale.
On the internet.
For all to see.
Worldwide.
She tweeted about it. So bloody what !
You seem to have some sort of persecution complex, maybe you should buy the damn thing for yourself.
I assume by your failure to comment on the substance of this post that you condone anti-Catholicism, anti-Islam and anti-Semitism?
Seeing as you’re not prepared to talk about the kernel of the issue here and would prefer to talk about my (perceived) anonymity, may I ask are all broadsheet.ie articles attributed? Are all independent.ie articles attributed?
If you don’t like pseudo-anonymous ABM, then block him (or personally abuse him or brand him with whatever stigma is currently right-on and with-it). I’m not a professional journalist – I don’t come here to be paid, I came here today to call up professional journalists like Miss Browne (who I presume is a NUJ member?) on her disgusting bigotry.
But hey, don’t let evil ABM (is it the real one?) stop you from trying to defend her.
Do you not see how slightly unhinged your response is ABM? It is as if you believe you are somebody on here – I mean it is utterly bizarre the way in which you speak of the persona you have created or that of which you are making use. Nobody cares. Being a professional internet commentator is not an actual occupation. The internet is not real life. If I pitied you before, I pity you even more now given the seriousness you ascribe to your presence on comment fora. Insanity.
Seems all religions are game for ridiculing these days – except Judaism.
+ 1
Ah, the good old days, when you could spout off about Jews running the world/eating babies/hoarding their wealth. Good times, good times….
Those weren’t anti-semitic attacks but random attacks by teens… so she’s just being a fool with that tweet. Look the story up.
You have spent plenty of time mocking the traditions of others on here ABM, even other Christian groups with your particular penchant for denigrate those of the Anglican and reformed faiths. Your cries of bigotry are empty and hollow with the added piquacy of a large dose of hypocrisy. Colette Browne’s tweet, more of a retweet, does not mock to the extent you have constructed in your head but draws attention to something that a lot of people would consider strange. I do know nuns of the Roman Catholic tradition were generally given these thorns as presents by other nuns on joining an Order and adorned their coffins when they died. While it is a tradition, I still find it somewhat strange and have every right as Colette Browne to point it out.
Anglicans? If you must ask, I feel sorry for the way their church has been destroyed by liberal ideology and pimp-my-bishop short-haired feminist types. I have a lot of respect for old-school Anglicanism (that hasn’t been infected with homosexuality and feminism), but unfortunately it’s becoming rarer and rarer. The Catholic Church has been very open to those Anglicans who yearned for something deeper and more meaningful. Many of them did leave through Pope Benedict’s Ordinariate. And many High Anglicans stayed (arguably out of a sense of great duty and loyalty to the crown) and hope to fix the damage. I wish them well. But yes, ultimately, they’re wrong – but it’s not for me to lay out the rationale as to why it was all such a bad idea. I have neither the knowledge nor the authority of Rome.
As for the Church of Ireland and their new I’m-a-Catholic-get-me-out-of-here members with very D4 aspirations (and an interest in rugby, cricket and Land Rover defenders); well that’s for another thread altogether. The best way to offend these people is to ask them if they remember so-and-so from St Brigid’s CBS or address them with the surname their parents gave them.
Lol – think this is the “other” ratchet-up-the-crazy ABM Cluster but whoever he is, he amply proves your point.
Nuns are married to Jesus.
Catherine of Sienna had his foreskin as her wedding ring.
Kinky.
I find it immensely difficult to take you seriously ABM when your musings amount to nothing more than a shallow form of satire. One does wonder whether you are actually endorsing or mocking Roman Catholicism?
+1
Was Jesus not Jewish? Do tell.
Are your pearls ok?
Perhaps you could “turn the other cheek”?
You’re hypocrisy makes me giggle.
I wouldn’t have launched such a wordy offensive as above but I don’t get the joke either. I think people post up any oul shyte on twitter for attention.
Surely you’ll at least allow me a little wry smile the next time she’s decided that she’s the expert on church affairs on Vincent Browne?
Lol – and who appointed you expert on the Roman Church? You are nothing more than a self-appointed internet expert ABM, the perfect displacement activity for your indolence and remove from real life. You poor sod, mired by your own hypocrisy and lack of focus.
You and me both ABM !
you can laugh at whomever you like. just as she is probably laughing at you.
she touched a bit of a nerve all the same, didn’t she abm?
It’s Ash Wednesday in Ireland and she thought she’d just pop that photo up on Twitter and not be called up on it?
Anyway, she’s only ruined what’s left of any reputation as a respected church critic (was she ever?). She’s written a lot of uninformed, ignorant stuff in recent years (the usual church thorny issues that she likes to find offence in) and I suspect she has zero contacts in any Irish diocese, has never been to Rome and doesn’t have a clue about how the church works (beyond having been to a few Irish weddings, funerals and baptisms). Do you think the bishops sit around worrying about what Collette Browne is going to write next? If anything, she’s doing their job for them.
“She has written a lot of uninformed, ignorant stuff in recent years”. Lol – so says Mr Bloody Underpants, ABM himself?! Are you familiar with your tirades on here for the past few years, posting at times well into the wee hours with a gusto that would make a Westboro Baptist Church member look disinterested in God. You get so exercised and the bile pours so easily forth, bashing the keyboard leaving comedy-cold and revealing your own low level malaise in your wake.
Stop being such a hypocrite ABM and try and engage with real life – it might make you happier.
Hmm, I am not sure ABM that you’re in any position to occupy the moral high ground in terms of castigating your perceived enemies for uninformed and ignorant commentary. The ground on which you stand is that approximating quick sand.
+1 more for crucifixion
I think it’s Ash Wednesday in more countries than just Ireland ABM.
It’s not click-bait, it’s ABM-bait.
Did the culture she grew up in advocate flagellation and shoving a pointy crown on your head? Doubt it.
If she was Catholic then yes
Unless she grew up in the Phillipines, I doubt it.
Screw you ABM
