To Madam or Sir,
Please don’t close Bally-mote library, because evry one loves it. We do music there and get lovely books. Louise, Bridy and Bernedette [The librarians; she didn’t include Malachy’s name because she didn’t know how to spell it] are very nice and friendly too. If you do lots of Bally-mote’s resedents will get upset a they might cry! It is one of the lest librarys I have ever seen. The fourth class go to music too. Evry time we go there are about ten pepoel there. I am sure resedents from other towns come, and that might be the only library they know. I have read about two hundred books in that place! There are the top five books, “Otoline goes to School”, “Helen Keller Courage in the Dark”, “Mheanwhile”, “Kittens and Puppies” and “Bugs”. Please don’t close our library.
Yours sincrly Grace
age Seven.
Proud dad, Dermot McGlone writes:
A letter written by my seven-year-old daughter, Grace, on the impending possible closure of some Library services in County Sligo, and in particular her local library in Ballymote. Grace wrote this herself, with no prompting or assistance from anyone, she felt it was something important that she needed to do.
There have been previous attempts to curtail and/ or close the Ballymote library service, and these have been thwarted or reversed by people power. But this is our most serious threat yet.
Closing libraries is a step too far in my book.
i for one am dewey-eyed
We’re on the same page so.
it’s all fine(s)
Sshhh!
Bar! code them down
Pull the author one.
Is that a book down your drawers or are you just biography?
You’re some chap ter talk!
Hard back
Call it a rebound.
Maybe dad shouldn’t be so proud. Lots of spelling and grammar errors I’m afraid. Probably have to give it an D- at best or realistically an E. Back to school with you.
If we’re grading trolling now, I’d give you a D-. Too transparent.
i was expecting jocknotti on here giving out about her audacity in protesting in the first place
You know what’ll help round out her education? A library.
That’d be “a D-” not “an D-”
Back to school with you too !
What spelling and grammar errors? ‘People’ and ‘sincerely’ and ‘friendly’ were misspelled – I certainly couldn’t spell those at seven. She has the apostrophe in the correct place in ‘don’t’, which is more than many adults in Ireland can achieve. Her grammar is perfect.
Hubert Kearns must be very proud of himself. Has left Sligo with a €80million debt but somehow managed to leave with a €270k pay-off, the highest of any county manager in the 26 counties, plus an annual pension of €68k while a whole host of services in Sligo are deemed no-essential and closed by a virtually bankrupt cc.
…isn’t Hubert at Irish Water now?
Children and the dead don’t have a vote.
And dead children the most disenfranchised of all!!
If you read the next BS article, I think you’ll find that dead children who are away on holidays at election time are the most disenfranchised…….
Nah the gay dead children have it worst of all, especially the ones who have to go to the well to collect their own water
They’re closing the library in Westside, Galway too
On the plus side they’re replacing it with a Kale milkshake pop-up experience sensory centre, the first in Europe to be powered by vegan farts.
Tents are back in fashion I see
Oh look everybody, I am a great parent!
Yep. Can’t help grimace a little when see this kind of sh1te.
LOL at the trolls.
LOL at you.
Ah here BS, that censorship was bananas. How was what I said offensive? It is pathetic when people seek the affirmation of others on the internet.
You mean by posting replies back to their own worthless commentary?
Ballymote is the only library in that area. The Tubbercurry library burned down. Both books were burned and one wasn’t even coloured *
*an oldie but a goodie
Libraries are the quiet heros of any area. If there is one reason to pay local property charges, its this.
How much would it cost to keep it open?
LPT is used to setup Irish Water, not keep local amenities open. Don’t be ridiculous.
It was supposed to be for local services. If anyone wants something to really protest about, this is it.
Where did all the planning development charges go in Sligo
were they not for providing library services, and the LPT was
drained off to Irish Water.
Given that John Perry TD is a few doors down from the Library
and seems to be reviving his supermarket, maybe he might
revive the library too, thats if he reads books instead of claiming
expenses, Tubbercurry Library was not burned down. it would
be impossible as the roof leaks, and has done since it was built
12 years ago at a cost of nearly 7 M Euros.
“Sligo certainly is full of surprises”
