“What a time to be alive”

With ISIS and BH joining up was this the best headline the Sunday Wooorild could come up with.

Surprised the Sindo has not wheeled out the appalling Mairia Cahill with picture in front of Government Buildings with a whinge up about Sinn Fein. You know the one. Getting into bed with the Cahill family, that well-known clan that upheld human rights in Ireland the UK by being complicit in and having knowledge of how innocent people where tortured, shot and blown to bits. Get a job Mairia, you’re looking and sound like Niamh Horan on a weekly basis.

Up early Mr Shinner Bot I see. Rather than insult your intelligence, I’ll simply assume that you’re more than acutely aware of the irony and lowbrow hypocrisy of your not-so-subtle post. Try again…but of course you’re probably on twitter as I type trying very hard indeed…

That’s pretty impressive. You’ve made up your own newspaper front page and then complained about the attention Mairia is getting from it.

In fairness, the Sindo website right now is festooned with that photograph of Mairia Cahill hawking her well-trodden tale of woe outside Leinster House, and today she’s claiming Gerry Adams’ speech last night was a “clear attack” on abuse victims.

It’s all about her. Listen to me. Look at me. Don’t forget about me. Even though, in the only real place where she could have obtained justice for her allegations, the courts, she walked out of her case and withdrew cooperation at the last minute, and then took on a senior role in a dissident Republican organisation.

Whatever could possibly aggrieve Mairia? Good and committed Shinners reserve to right to call out all and sundry for even the slightest moral failing, huffing and puffing with grandiose yet feigned indignation. But dare one try and pierce the veil and question Sinn Fein’s own past murky dealings and moral failings, to put it mildly…

Every right to feel not just aggrieved but furious to the core for being abused (allegedly, but no-one seems to be using that term here, even though the alleged perpetrator has denied the abuse – I do believe her though). And Shinners are a political party which will tend to defend itself and mitigate damage. That’s the nature of any political party and any alleged victim. We all accept that, surely.

What’s difficult to swallow is the Cahill story which is six months old. She had her chance for justice in her own case, blew it herself, and then went on to work with dissidents. As far as my interest is concerned, her time in the sun has come and gone. Only paper now covering her tale of woe is INM, and let’s face it, that collection of rags is giving the National Enquirer a run for its money.

To be fair, he’s commenting on something not shown here, writing his own story, and then getting enraged about it.

Had a good time at the #lp15 party last weekend did we? Lonely I’d day. Cahill is a republican dissident. Let’s see her try and get into the USA for St Patty’s to peddle the INM/FG line. No chance. Watchlist material.

Re Maria Cahill: The Phoenix covered this and put it to bed a few months ago. To wit:

    1. After she was assualted, Maria Cahill went to the Army Council of the IRA rather than the RUC/PSNI since she was a member of Young SF and didn’t recognise the legitimate police force of the country at the time. She sought retribution, which was a shooting if the accused was found guilty. It wasn’t shoot-to-kill, but if the guilty person died, then tough – that’s the circles you move in.
    2. It was a very sensitive time in the North, with the Belfast Agreement in the mix, so the IRA shooting someone was off limits. They told Maria Cahill as much, and obviously she wasn’t a happy bunny.
    3. She met Adams, again looking for justice, but he just reinforced the no shooting message.
    4. Fast forward to the PSNI being recognised by SF, and she goes to them years later to make a complaint about being sexually assualted by a senior Republican.
    5. They can’t believe their luck, and decide to tie membership of an illegal organisation to a sexual assualt charge.
    6. Despite being resourced to within an inch of their life, the PSNI officials make a spectacular mess of the dual charge case, and Maria Cahill’s attacker walks.
    7. She’s not a happy bunny and the story breaks in the North, dies after a week or so, and then she gives the Southern media a shout.
    8. INM, supporting FG and Labour, try, try, try, and try again to make some mud stick to SF.

The big issue here is the cock-up made of a rape charge by the PSNI. But I’m guessing INM give Maria Cahill more a hearing than the Police Service of her native land on this one.

How could O’Donnell give a property worth €156m to his son before becoming bankrupt? Surely any such transaction close to bankruptcy would be declared null and void.
