“No return to boom or bust” – there’s a headline they role out every few years, and the ink always makes it onto the front page.

Shocking news about the Crufts poisoning of the Irish Setter. Are the police following any leads?

Hard to believe that a Belgian dog that ate poisoned meat following a British dog competition reaches Ireland’s front pages and the second story in every news bulletin this morning.

You mean the libel battle with DOB in 2013, when DOB won his claim that he was portrayed as a hypocrite in a Daily Mail article penned by Paul about DOB’s charitable role in Haiti after the earthquake? Didn’t DOB win €150,000 plus costs, and much to the surprise and disappointment in the world of journalism generally, the Daily Mail didn’t appeal. Yes, that was a tough decision.

As for Paul, fine journalist and newspaper man, taken too young. RIP.
