They expect a helluva lot for nothing! A background in television production? Jeez…

It just means they should have a qualification or training in it.
Heaven forbid someone should have some training in their chosen field in order to perform their tasks effectively.
Jeez.
an internship is precisely what should be giving this person their training; it should by definition be for someone needing to learn the tasks.
You are incredibly naive if you think that you can get an internship in any field these days without already having a good level of knowledge and ability of the industry and work.
that’s the point. it’s an abuse of the phrase ‘internship’. the above is an unpaid trial employment, not an internship.
+1 more off the dole
It’s the for free part that is troublesome. “By asking people to work without pay, employers exclude those with talent, ambition and drive who cannot afford to work for free. Employers and young people alike benefit from the best graduates getting the best jobs. Only by paying interns a fair wage can we ensure this happens.” – via http://www.internaware.org/

I’m more drawn to their requirement that the candidate has an understanding of what makes good television. That’s a skill that TV3 are sorely lacking so, with luck, the correct appointment could change everything.
You mean you’re not hooked to Red Rock?
Do you know of anyone who watches it?
Well, I’m sure there’s a hospital ward where some poor bed ridden soul is forced to watch it daily – while struggling to reach the off switch on their ventilator.
Oh my I laughed.
Probably true though….adopts frown.
I hope your partner is not of the same sex with that unlicensed adoption!
Pretty much sums up my relationship with Clampers Ma.
‘broadcasted’ 8(
Did you see that part where they held a gun against your head and forced you to apply for the job?
God, another one of those ‘it doesn’t directly impinge on me so I’ll turn a blind eye to it’ type of people.
The TV is nearly always on in the background in my house.
Does that mean I qualify?
Welcome to the Irish television business, nepotistic and/or exploitive.
Wants
Excellent this
Brilliant that
An all consuming whatever
More Excellent stuff
Ha. As if anyone in TV3 would recognise any of them
The ability to work under pressure as part of a busy team while also under the financial pressure of no income.
Planning and organisational skills to help survive on zero wages.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to be able to get on the bus for free to commute to this job they aren’t paying you for
The ability to write concise background briefs for presenters about people who are being paid to be on television
An all-consuming interest in Irish life, entertainment and popular culture but with no means to be able to take part in any part of it that requires money
Excellent computer skills so you can work on your CV to get an actual job
Brilliant social media skills so you can defend crappy decisions TV3 make like this
This. Quite aside from work deserving pay in and of itself, it costs money to go to work. Bus fares, lunch, tea and coffee, clothes suitable for the workplace, and being able to go to the pub with your colleagues after work even for just one drink every now and then. I remember very clearly the thousand tiny anxieties of trying to live on very low wages. An internship would have been out of the question for me, and would have gone to someone whose parents could/would subsidise them, while I continued to work in Spar just so I could live, with little or no hope of breaking into most professions if I had to do an internship in order to do so. It’s one reason I’m really glad I’m not in my early 20s now – doors which I just managed to lever open for myself at that age would now be forever closed to me. Internship culture is a disgrace.
This exact type of job used to be paid a few years ago. Really, really badly, but still paid, plus you got free leftover sandwiches.
A labourer is worthy of his hire.
Everyone has to start somewhere, but lesson 1 – get paid.
specially egrigous to use the “intern’s” work on screen without pay:
“the ability to write concise background briefs for presenters”
Didn’t TV3 lay off oa bunch of staff there a while back? – way to go to reduce your payroll costs…
would be *far* better if the company got a tax break against salary paid to ppl who work for them.
“A background in television production”
Yes, well, my father was a producer with R*E until he founded his own company and my mother was a presenter until she progressed to opinion pieces, so you see my background is immersed in television production….”
Standard Irish job requirement.
Oh! You and your fancy “meritocracy”. What!
