In a rush to outrage one often loses the communication of said outrage.

It’s just so Dunnes management can claim to the unions that their strike had no effect on sales.
How do you picket an online store?
Anonymous are yer men, and women, for that.
Putting the site infrastructure, graphic design etc. in place for this would have taken a good bit of forward thinking, put away your pitchfork.
Don’t be silly that artwork could be put together in no time or ‘re-hashed.
As far as site infrastructure, I work in online sales and a flat discount across the board is the easiest discount to apply.

Can someone explain why some staff are working today and not picketing?
Not all staff are in the union.
And not all staff may agree with the unions ? I don’t think management levels are in Mandate.
Plus all staff have been called in, even if they were due to be off today. There’s rumblings about threats to staff and their hours if they support the strike. Sounds about right for Dunnes. They’re a woeful company, woeful to their suppliers, woeful to their landlords, woeful to the staff and if they think they’re ALWAYS better value, woeful to their customers. And given the secrecy surrounding their finances, and the fact it’s an unlimited company that doesn’t publish financial accounts, it’s a fair bet they’re woeful to the country.

Smaller designers who don’t have the deep pockets of Dunnes Stores have said they can’t afford to pursue Dunnes for ripping off their designs.
Not just Karen Millen, they’ve been sued for a number of such cases over the years. I generally avoid Dunnes but recently I’ve been popping in there once in a while – thinking maybe things have improved in the way they treat people as I hadn’t heard much about them lately – so it’s good to get a reminder that they have not changed. Boycott Dunnes.
And Dunnes don’t stock the Sunday Times because of some row about return of unsold copies. Remember going into a branch when I returned from a spell abroad, looking for rocket, turkey breast and a Sunday Times. Came out with chicken breast, lettuce. I left the Sindo.
Not to forget that the Revenue had to take them to court for not paying their plastic bag levy, €21m was the figure that Dunnes underpaid the revenue.
They also don’t sell the Irish Times either because of a dispute over money owed to the newspaper.

Bah! And I had abandoned Tesco for similar reasons.
Someone made a similar comment in the other story, Tesco are by far a much better employer than Dunnes ever will be.

And Aldi are even better than both Dunnes and Tesco, €11.65 an hour they pay. You work hard but they pay their staff well for doing so
You work, non stop. And do absolutely everything.
True- but behind the scenes in the warehouses people work flat-out in unsafe conditions. You are expected to pick 250+ cases per hour which is impossible while trying to use proper manual handling techniques. Long-term musculoskeletal damage which we the taxpayer will pay for in years to come, or we will introduce a health insurance system so we can screw the workers twice.
I wonder if Dunnes ever paid the 36 million they owed for the plastic bags tax they were unwilling to pay.
They lost that case. I presume they did pay, although they’re not fond of paying for anything.
It’s a shocking level of cynicism by Dunnes. They’re prepared to take a financial hit on sales today just to spite the workers looking for fair employment practices. Pretty revolting behaviour and really does prove the worker’s point.
Anyone shopping with them until this situation is resolved to the worker’s satisfaction (and their requests are extremely modest and reasonable, personally I think they deserve better than they’re looking for) really ought to be ashamed of themselves.
Dunnes need to buck up their ideas. It’s obvious how unhappy staff are any time you go into the place: regularly rude and unhelpful. Zero hours may save money on paper, but if means people are disinclined to shop there because of the way staff treat them then it’s hardly a saving.
Dunnes Stores have a long history of not giving a flying fupp about what anyone thinks of their practices. They have a dismal record in employee relations, supplier management, media engagement, customer care and governance / statutory issues. They will continue not giving a flying fupp simply because it works for them. Why change?

Classy, appealing not only to the greed, but to the cowardice of the scab who would rather cross the line without stepping outside and being seen as a scab.
They also had a row with Brennans Bread when Brennans wanted to put the price up because of rising costs.
Dunnes stopped stocking Brennans Bread for a while. Not sure who blinked first there though.
They also fell out with their relations (I think they’re related) who done the shipping for them, pretty much leaving them to go bankrupt.
Since Dunnes were the ‘Apartheid? Grand altogether!’ shop, I can’t believe anyone is surprised.
