The comments section on Waterford Whispers can sometimes be as good as the article when you see so many people who don’t get it. When the article mentions one direction they’re just off the wall!

What worries me is that they are not using a percentage countdown for tthier battery life!

Playing very fast and loose IMHO.

I cant see how this is funny – I too would see it as a serious matter. While a lot of people already know that WW and others “TheOnion copycat” are fake news, an awful lot more take those as real news. Satirical news site it may be that doesn’t mean they can post anything they want, nor use real names or photographs.

Well, seeing as the cops are in Washington, they have to abide by the first amendment. The burden of proof is on them to prove that the article is damaging. Also, I think they would be better served if they just stopped shooting people, then the article wouldn’t be relevant anymore.

“awful lot more take those as real news”

So people are supposed to be careful of what they write because of idiots ?

You shirley cannot be serious?! You think that there are more people who believe sites like WWN are real news agencies than those who understand it’s satire?

It’s a serious matter, of course, but that doesn’t exclude it from satirical treatment. They’re not mutually exclusive. Satirising a serious subject does not undermine the importance of the subject. Historically satire was used as a way to address important issues that were otherwise protected from criticism.

If it is a satirical publication it actually does mean they can use real names and feature real people in photographs. Unless you just mean morally? Legally they can. This is why satire still exists in the 21st century. It is effectively protected.

An awful lot of people think Fox is real news too. We can’t always aim for the lowest common denominator.

My God!!! You’ve just flipped everything I believe in on it’s head!
Your existential thought process has me in meltdown here dude..

FFS!!! Inception was fake! Inception was a fake film!

Why do people continually conflate it with real life??

So www are posting this as some sort of hilarious fail on the American cops part.

How can they be expected to know about every shitty regional onion clone in the world? Even if they did know it’s ‘satire” the still have a point about the title appearing with the picture of decent, innocent officers.

    1. Gers

You have explained it better than I did! Thats what I meant, 100% agree. Satire it may be but many sites will pickup Title + official image and run with it, pretty much guaranteed.

      1. Paps

Yup, just like the north koreans landing on the dark side of the sun got picked up.

Any journalist worth their salt could take 1 minute doing a bit of investigation and find out that wwn is a satirical site. Do we expect so little.

  3. Anomanomanom

I agree with the police. What’s the world coming to when has an officer in the USA you can’t shoot some minority just because you want you. You
