Yesterday’s Irish Times headline smelt of desperation. They deliberately excluded “don’t knows” from their dramatic headline. The numbers on the ground are very encouraging for NO voters and the aging, dying, dinosaur Dublin media elite don’t like what the people are privately talking about – at home, in the pub, in the shops, etc. The Dublin-centric metropolitan media want to control not only what the people talk about, but what they think.
You are right, when you say the Irish times where cheating in how they displayed their polling data. But the Yes vote still has a majority even if you include every undecided in the No vote. Also when reporting the results of the poll on the radio or on the television, reporters gave it as 3 separate figures the No, the Yes and the undecided so saying all the Dublin media is running from this poll is a bull statement. Everyone knows the crap the Irish Times puts out, but it doesn’t deny that the Yes side is still polling a majority and your comment is really just blatant scaremongering.
Perhaps your views on sentiment are different because of the social group you are immersed in. I suspect the sentiment towards two men/women getting married (and all that goes with it) in my social group is quite different to yours. At this stage, there is no point in discussing the reasons why. It’s such an emotive issue and it’s very easy to disregard common sense.
On the Irish Times – yes, they keep digging themselves deeper. Quality has suffered hugely because of the never-ending paring, reduced spending in the dead tree format and the emergence of online yellow journalism titles such as thejournal.ie. The feminist mantra ringing from Tara Street is over the top at this stage – they’ve lost the run of themselves. They still believe the promises of the 1960s is the future. So much so, an on-the-ground investigative journalism piece is about as rare as a nun in a bikini (or a feminist columnist for that matter). The new initiative “Irish Time Data” has been caught out a number of times already – they are attempting to utilise academic studies and data to further their ideology. Any free-thinking academic would be well advised to steer well clear. They’re getting it badly wrong and to be frank, I’m quite enjoying the squirming and posturing as they go to ever more desperate extremes in an attempt to justify their relevance in contemporary Irish society.
But my views have nothing to do with sentiment, the figures speak for themselves with an overall Yes majority.

Anyway, what is right has nothing to do with class. You are the one who seems obsessed with “non-U”/”petit bourgeois” terminology – this kind of thing seems to interest you greatly. Is your interest contextualised by Communism perhaps? I find gay “marriage” (like feminism and many other lies) is thought out with the “proletariat” in mind.
It’s quite simple really: This Friday we are being asked to uphold the truth or codify a lie into the constitution.

More mirth form a fellow with seriously misplaced but endearingly hilarious notions. Bless Ted, the implication that you think about these things so discretely from all the others with an acute non-proletariat focus which belie your true origins, has brought me a degree of amusement today. As I say, the tyranny of the Roman Catholic lower middle class infused with nothing more than superficial piety. I’ll leave you to your semi-rural ignorant bliss.
Oh and I am a Communist? That’s news to me. So those who don’t share your social class’ view are Communists? Please dear, is that what your no-doubt less than broad education has taught you? Indeed, taking a wild stab in the dark, I would not at all be surprised that you are the type of person who describes themselves as a “professional” and indulges in risible affectations of the class you think you belong to but fail miserably at mimicking.

Hold on lets not forget that the no side polled 25% not really ground breaking numbers.
My take on the Irish Times headline yesterday was more sinister. Manipulate the figures to motivate Undecideds to move to No, and pacify Yes voters into skipping the booths on Friday, “because it’s a sure thing”.
This is a fairly transparent move, imo, and I hope Yes voters still come out in droves. No complacency please!!
