Environmental lawyer Erin Brokovich (above) and Berkely last week (top)
The company behind the construction of the Berkeley apartment block should take action to ensure that the families of those involved in the balcony collapse disaster are not left with enormous medical bills as a result of the faulty construction.
I am available to meet with and assist the families, and to advocate for them to find a non-litigious solution in the coming weeks.
As a Californian, I am devastated that these young visitors to our shores were caught up in this horrific situation. My heart goes out to their families, friends, and loved ones, and along with all of the people of California, I want to extend my deepest sympathies to the people of Ireland.
…However, as a lifelong activist, I feel it is my duty to come forward and offer these families my assistance. For those who did not survive the accident, there is a need for us to uncover the truth about what happened. For those who did survive, there is a pressing need to ensure that the company responsible for this tragedy is held to account.
It is their duty, I believe, to ensure that the treatment of those who were affected is paid for, and that they are not burdened with the costs of this disaster as well as the trauma associated with it. I will be calling upon those involved to do the right thing in an effort to avoid the need for prolonged and expensive litigation.
I have partnered with Dublin law firm Phelim O’Neill solicitors to facilitate families who require any support or assistance. I am available to meet with the families at their discretion as they begin their search for answers, explanations, and justice.
Thanks Ronan Emmett

Hearse chasing?
Ach no. I much prefer dag racin.
no mention of the fact that she subsequently screwed over her clients in the case that made her famous by charging massive fees so her law firm got most of the money instead of the victims?
The victims got just under $200,000,000.
a hush now…don’t let that truth thing get in the way of character assassination.
I preferred her in Pretty Woman
And her firm got just over $133,000,000.
And her firm had to be sued by the victims three times before the firm released the money.
And the victims say the distribution of the money to them didn’t make any sense as their medical records (and thus medical expenses) were never looked at or used to break down the award.
And her firm billed $10,000,000 for undetailed expenses which breaks the US Bar association’s professional standards.
But yes, I’m sure that’s just character assassination and not things that are in the public record.
Hmmmm…money….
My favourite smell…
…oh yes….
I’m building up quite a froth without a proper ending in sight.
Can someone else take over?
Thanks.
try your left hand.
I just wonder where Sharon is during all this.
Ssshhhhhhh
Oh it’s all so high profile and connected all this. Was at a party in Booterstown at the weekend and everyone was clambering over each to claim an association with one of the victims.
If these were all average kids from average families and studying in Tallaght IT, the tone of the media coverage would be very different. The finger of blame would be pointing in both directions and RTE would be going on as if their very own children had died.
Weird little country this when it comes to displays of grief and how it’s covered in the media. It’s so blatantly obvious what the media wants us to think of the deceased.
Reverse snobbery of the highest order – are you surprised people at a party in the vicinity of where a number of the victims were from had a connection to them? Get that chip off your shoulder
No, RTE would not be like that. Stop talking sh&te.
Well
Anyone remember the 3 Junior Doctors that were lost on the Air France to Brasil flight?
No flags at half mast then…..
Actually this comment makes me very angry because (unlike lordblessus i suspect) I’m old enough to remember the stardust.
Aye. Pretty sure we even had an actual ‘news flash’ the next morning.
There was some victim blaming at the time too. Why the doors were locked, young people smoking etc.
Before internet, have only leaky head as source here…
There wasn’t victim blaming at all. There was a fire that killed almost 50 mostly young people and people wanting to know how that happened. That is not victim blaming.
Maybe you grew up somewhere enlightened but I remember the reasoning behind locking the fired doors being discussed.
And that it was started deliberately.
People trolled IRL then *sighs
They would all have travel insurance, which should cover medical bills and repatriation, no?
So they don’t need help from a celebrity lawyer.
I read somewhere that their insurance won’t cover this – something about a cap in the small print – and the families of those in hospital could be facing medical bills of up to $4,000 a day.
USA, the country where you really don’t want to be in need of medical assistance, unless you are lawyered up to the hilt with a good case in hand.
I saw the other day on TV a guy stitching up a nasty gash on his own leg because he didn’t have health cover. That’s not right.
Any chance she’d come to Cork and fix Haulbowline?
Its full of dangerous chemicals including the famous chromium 6 that Brocovich highlighted in california.
Cobh has a lung cancer rate 30% above the national average but Dublin refuses to pay to clean up THEIR mess.
Cork people have to die because Dublin needs its new boardwalks and endless subsidised arts festivals and methodone clinics.
Thanks lads.
