If you consider “continuing until 1996, when removed in an act of electioneering by a Fine Gael – Labour-DL government (who didn’t get re-elected)” to mean “defeated by non payment”, I suggest you may find a career in politics rather welcoming.

Yes because if you hold a contrary view that is even mildly pro-govt on any issue then you clearly are a Young FG shill.

Do you never get bored of the same tired slur? Do a search for Broadsheet.ie and YFG or Young Fine Gael or Young FG and together there is over a 100,00 results.

Also any Un paid bills got deducted from any sale of the property if it owed unpaid bills. There was no penalty though.

Most broadsheet commenters seem to be mad for the Water Charges to succeed. Almost smugly so.

    Seems strange.

It’s probably because after 1996 we went back to the system which didn’t incentivise conservation, left dublin with with Victorian era pipes and a capacity margin of 1-2%, left Roscommon with loads of boil water notices, which allowed ministers to cherry pick investment projects on the basis on re election needs…ye know all that good stuff. The list goes on.

But sure don’t let logic stand in your way in the fight against domestic water charges.

If only there was about 4 billion euro we could use to fix those problems instead of spending it on a super quango of cronies and “advisors”.

So: we had water charges for 13 years, but still have Victorian-era pipes? How’d that work out?

Because anyone with a brain values conservation and recognises that our existing systems are unfit for purpose. Plus some hate Shinners, scumbags etc so they have a little self loathing and inverted middle class snobbery going on

As opposed to having the kind of principles that allow you NOT to pay for stuff ? Where can I get some of those ?

Ordinary decent tax payers already pay for the treatment of the water supply. Only a truly deluded individual that moronically supports a new Irish Water version of the HSE would be happy to pay I.W. regressive stealth taxes for it to be squandered on the likes of FG & Labours Irish Water. What’s that I hear? The flushing noise in the background is Min Alan Kelly (along with his chance of being reelected), company Irish Water disappearing down the sewers!
