Pretty sure they’re having a go at the fact that the organisation overseeing all canals on the island of Ireland is based outside the Republic, where there could be people of a unionist background working to undermine the sacred ground upon which 1916 nutter hero blood was spilled.
classter
Wasn’t that the great dream of Easter 1916 – that Irishmen & women of all creeds could come together within the unifying matrix of petty bureaucracy?
Exactly, that what I think is ironic about the message in the first place. Small-minded armchair republicans have smaller minds than even they themselves know!
Those notices have been around for a while (there was a a laminated one up at the start of the year), though the sunny weather seems to have brought the posterer out with a fresh crop.

All that and some looney littering the area with green posters…

Put a roof on then fence it off, all 1, 776 km’s of it – that’ll learn ’em.

The casualties 240 were overwhelmingly British .. Using the same insane tactics used at the Somme . The IRA commander tried to communicate with the British Commanding Officer to stop marching his men into their guns .General Lowe ordering Mount St Bridge to taken at all costs and could easily flanked Republican positions by using Baggot St Bridge .
Bingo
I bumped into a lady putting up these posters a few weeks ago.
Her main gripe was with the “North taking over our canals”.
She was “mature” lady with obviously little else to be bothering her.

o.O
You saw something unusual and you asked the person doing it a direct question about what was going on and you found out what it was about?
What was that like?
Bingo
Terrifying.
Next time I’ll keep the head down and briskly walk on by.

I think Mikey’s point is that you had the common sense to enquire, as opposed to taking a sneaky photo and then sending it to BS for an explanation?
Bingo
Yeah, I got that impression too.
I wasn’t being too serious with my reply!
Yep. We should have left the bloodstains from 1916 there for future generations to muse on whilst chowing on a panini.
Gas..
And not a mention of the winos who basically live along that particular bank, leaving behind their mess of empty cans, bottles and piss and shit.
But no, it’s the market that’s disrespecting history.
canal is banal

The authorities ignored you! How could this happen?
Trust me when I say there are rats nearby. They are always nearby the canal, regardless of the amount of people nearby.
Was it a Labour party Conference?
You’re getting quite tedious now.
+1
Who is tedious, do I know him? Is he a bear?
A long way to go before reaching Joan Burton levels of tedium.
BOOM BOOM!
+1 actually they were just having a lie in.
To be fair: It is a bit sh!t thanks to the food stalls and tubby #nom merchants who attend. Most of whom are from startups and the public sector.
And Bankers.. Never forget the Bankers..
And sure isn’t FF HQ only down the road! They ruined this country, and its pristine canal banks.
Startups?
You mean Google?
Entitled tech workers gotta eat too.
I wish I was rich enough to live in Percy place and buy green paper and waste brass tacks
Wildlife = rats, homeless drunken bums, nasty swans?
Quick send in Donal Moloney
It’s looking pretty grotty up around Portobello too. Mostly down to weeds.
It’s called Summer.

All I can say is fupp off for referencing 1916 as part of your gripe.

Silly moderator, I didn’t say ‘twit’, I used an ‘a’ not an ‘i’ :)
Was funny, I giggled a little
tuu@t… gotcha…

For brevity
What?! We can’t say tw@ now?
Of course, that’s how to do it ! :)
It looks like the Somme in 1916. When will they do something about it?
Presumably when a million heavily-armed Germans pour over La Touche bridge.
To be fair, it’s relevant because of the 1916 memorial located there.
