‘Tis almost farcical how slow govt departments/agencies & semi-states are to embrace new technology & change in general.

The IDA & some govt ministers love the idea that we are (or at least, are becoming) an internet/IT hub but the rest of the system really doesn’t play ball at all. You can see it in how the Revenue decision around Air BnB was arrived at & how none of the politicians seemingly had considered the issue.

If we really want to maintain/improve our position we need to do a bit more than keep our corporate tax low and wait for Americans with Irish surnames to come & show us how it is done. Our competitiors in the UK have been making great strides on those businesses, inlcuding on tax and providing a welcoming environment for such businesses (The Tories only love Air BnB, Uber, etc.). They have made a big point of improving the govt’s approach to dealing with the public via the internet (gov.co.uk).

        I hear ya….

A friend was recently on the dole for about two months. All the paper work got messed up because as one women at the welfare office said, or there abouts… ” 85% of the people in here wont use the new systems, not because they can’t, they just won’t, and its whats causing problems with your claim……. “

To be fair, whenever any government gets involved in tech projects, it’s usually a disaster.

Them not leaping into it like the e-voting is a small blessing I think.

Didn’t they have a sign saying pretty much the same thing up AGES ago….like 6 months/ a year ago….!? Why can’t they just hire the crew who make having a visit to the restrooms in Connolly across the way a really quite pleasant experience.

In Andrews Street post office the other day – one of the main An-Post-run offices rather than a sub-post-office run by a postmaster – you could pay for stamps with a debit card, but not a credit card, but if you bought an envelope you had to pay for that in cash. #Headddesk

Are they going to reopen the cinema and theatre in Busaras too? Always wanted a poke around there.
