Last night.
Outside Cathedral, ‘Oriental-themed’ nightclub and ‘smokehouse’ on several floors.
Main Street, Maynooth, Co Kildare

There’s a bit of momentum beginning to gather behind this. Apparently there are a lot of contractors which haven’t been paid for their work renovating the club [details at link below]…

did that place used to be called ‘the roost’?
No, The Roost is around the corner for it. That place was Mantra and before that, The Leinster Arms. Parochial dump that stinks of fake tan and anxiety.
“stinks of fake tan and anxiety” – comments like this are why I come here
That’s an improvement. It used to smell of wee and shepherd’s pie!
How the floor/ceiling never collapsed in the LA is a miracle
.
.
.
Late Aughties?
No – that’s further down on the corner.
This one used to be The Leinster Arms and it had a table Space Invaders in the bar.
Today it serves a good steak.
And some industrial action on the side.
Is Caulfield’s still going?
Pretty sure it is. I’ve not embarrassed myself in front of any female students in a while though.
caulfields is now called mcmahons and is a nicer pub
Thanks for the info – it was a tad, ah, rustic at that time.
ah right, the LA. i was always more of a brady’s man meself.
Ah the Leinster Arms – I used to go there for illicit drinks when I was 16 (they were not big on checking IDs in there, back in the day)
The LA was more illicit than LA itself.
The LA was a dump even back in the heady days of 1997. The Roost was where the discerning drinker used to go. Now the Roost is a superpub with about 4 floors and countless big screens.
Who’s funding you Dong?
I’m a little suspicious of this “we should get paid for working” narrative that you are trying to spin and I’m not convinced you typed all those words on your own.
Leave the outrage to the big boys and don’t be worrying your pretty little head about it.
have we not reached the limits of the ‘dong’ quota?
ah
the penny dropped ; )
Sit back and marvel as Dong completely fails to take offense at the throwaway remark at the end.
The Dong Quota – great name for a bongo flick.
My head is quite pretty, thanks.
I’ve nothing to do with any of this, just a witness to the online hullabaloo.
Tough crowd.
it gave me a smile
I chuckled
I knew it was The Leinster Arms! Got through a few pints and young wans there when I was studying for the priesthood.
what’s a pint of guinness and a priest got in common?
a bad one’ll tear the hole off ya!
Heh heh heh!
The LA was great, they let anyone in, you could buy pills smoke spliffs, anything went. then they spent 10mil building a glorified smoking area and now whatever this creation is
Another typical tale of the The Irish Business Man: Leaving suppliers unpaid for generations as I keep all the money for myself and my mock Tudor mansion just outside town. ?
I remember my Dad telling me about one site, back in the 70’s where the men weren’t paid.
They removed their work from the premises – the pipes, wiring, plaster, doors, windows….. would hate to see a newly refurbished nightclub have the same fate…..
What d**k doesn’t pay for work done? Name & shame.
“What d**k doesn’t pay for work done?”
Usually the very types everyone would expect better of. Well schooled chaps who learn it from their Fathers.
Ducks who learn it from their feathers.
Had my first pint in the old roost but secured my first ride in the LA. I hated everything about mantra.
The attitude towards paying suppliers on time (if at all) in this country is absolutely disgusting!
There should be a strict, quick and easily enforceable law set up to protect businesses from being screwed over time and again. (no lengthy and expensive court procedures)
If you order any type of work to be done and don’t pay upon the agreed date – huge fines, prison or community service to be dropped on the head of the person that ordered the works to be carried out.
That would simply stop the chain reaction of late/non payments at the very core of the problem.
Bogger starts pretty soon after you’re out of Dublin.
Anywhere past the M50 and you’re on safari.
