So within the target range of 0-2%. Anyway, my rents costs are up 10% and that’s c25% of my net income per month, so presumably the price of food, drink, car insurance, power, etc, has gone down to get me to zero percent overall. Oh, wait, they haven’t.

How times have changed. You don’t want to bother with inflation figures, they never give an accurate view of actual price inflation because of how figures are collected. In the US, for example, energy and food costs are not factored. Instead watch for ‘shrinkflation’. This is how inflation is hidden these days. Shrinking quantities and lower quality rather than higher prices. Zero percent inflation in Ireland just simply isn’t accurate at all. Wake up consumers.
