And yet nobody is exploiting it.

For over a century Western oil companies have jumped through all sorts of hoops, put up with all sorts of reversals, and were willing to get their hands dirty in all sorts of ways to extract oil from remote, hostile & politically unstable parts of the world – Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, Angola, Ecuador…

Yet somehow they have just left a huge reserve of easily available oil sitting there adjacent to a stable Western European country, one which cries out for FDI…

…and, in fairness, the Russians with their 10 million soldiers killed and the a-bombs did most of the job in WWII.

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will…
My rifle and I know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit…
My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will…
Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until victory is America’s and there is no enemy, but peace!

War, great for business. (As long as you are not the one getting bombed back to the stone age, for freedom)

There were only six divisions of Marines in ’44 and they were all deployed (or about to be) in the Pacific. Surely the Rangers were of more use in the bocage than a marine!

I’m thankful the US is no longer the economic number 1 economic superpower and that the oil is running out. We already have plenty of new energy technologies in development like this : https://www.iter.org/

I’m also thankful for PBS.org for this doco series “We Shall Remain” :

Last but not least, thanks to BS.ie for being a decent source and outlet for information and healthy discourse….
….and random abuse, trolling and sheer stupidity.
