“Shane MacGowan’s Irish dental surgeon Darragh Mulrooney reveals how he climbed ‘the Everest of dentistry… But he wants it known that “there was a whole team required to get to the summit”.

” MacGowan’s last two teeth handed in their notice in 2008 and the maverick who co-wrote the Christmas anthem “Fairytale of New York” was left with an empty mouth and a distinct lisp.”

“Is it true he did some of the damage by biting into a vinyl copy of The Beach Boys Greatest Hits, Volume 3? “Yeah, I was out of my head,” he says. “I thought I was conducting talks with the Americans after the third world war. I said: ‘This is what I think of American culture’, and took a big bite out of it. And it’s a good record, actually.”

The contrast between the Daily Torygraph and the UK Indepedent’s reporting of the Saudi executions tell you a lot about those publications. When will Blair/Cameron invade Saudi Arabia, for the good of the people there?
Peter Dempsey
Why can’t you call it by its proper name – the Sunday Telegraph – instead of resorting to infantile slurs? Do you also give out about “suits”, “big business” and “nasty corporates”.
As for their treatment of the executions; the Telegraph seems focused on the one that might have domestic relevance where the Independent takes a more woolly overview that reeks of hand-wringing and self-loathing.
Matt
I’m waiting for the Daily Heil to tell me what to think. I have a fawning love of the suits in the nasty corporates.
Malta
Where’s the slur? Would anyone disagree that the Telegraph and the Conservative party share an ideology? Certainly not anyone who looked at the Telegraph’s pre-election coverage…
Is Tory in itself a slur?

Labour plans gay attack…
Come again?!
some old queen
Surely even Labour cannot be this stupid? There are coupes all over this country receiving painful refusals to their weddings and now these clowns want to use the most important Equality vote of our time as a cheap smear against their opponents? Absolutely clueless.
The fact they are even considering using the marriage referendum in such a way means more people will be voting no… to THEM !

And what in you opinion is the “most important equality vote of our time” then? Either way, using such an historic event in this manner will hurt them electorally. It is unbelievably stupid.

And we all know why the indo uses it as a front page story. Is this really the best they can do as a media organisation?
Paddy
Almost as good of a Photoshop excercise as was the brick thrower.
Now, will Labour deny it commissioned such an advert? If they do deny it, then will the Redactodependent be dragged through the courts, and their computer hard drives be imaged to find out the source of the image?
Of course, if Labour DID commission this, then it opens the floodgates for a very interesting election poster campaign with Photoshopping to the fore.
And if they do do it, then they’ve just alienated a massive section….the SSM section…..as such a joke would be in extremely bad taste.
Walter-Ego
The Independent should just rename themselves Fine Gaels Propaganda Wing and just be done with it. Their utter disdain for a democratic choice is beyond embarrassing at this stage.
Peter Dempsey
I love seeing people getting wound up about The Sunday Independent / Irish Independent. Such rage and what a waste of energy.
meadowlark
It would be nice if the paper wasn’t quite so biased. Balanced reporting is hard to come by. Every publication has some form of political bias, but in some cases the prejudice is so obvious, you may as well be reading fiction.

Does it really matter? It’s.a total rag I wouldn’t even use it for cat litter let alone work myself up over it

What about the stories critical of FG and enda?
Do they all need to be critical of the government to count as independent in your eyes?
If anyone needs a laugh then have a read of niamh horans piece on 1916 very FG today. An aspiring political commentator if ever there was one!

I find it odd that British papers are shown on here.
Any British sites with Irish front pages ?
We are an odd little place.

What are you on about? The British papers have numerous customers here as many are almost fully assimilated into Anglo Irish culture. Nothing odd about that. What is odd is people wearing fainnes and clinging on like diseased badgers to some ancient culture

That probably never existed

American papers appear on occasions too.
I like to see the world view of other nations and seeing as there is a huge number of documentaries on British history, it’s safe enough to assume a lot of people living here know what’s going on there and like to keep abreast of things,

Good to see the SAS still maintains its high standards based on years of practise of taking out Irish terrorists.
If they’d been given a completely free reign the Troubles would have been over years earlier.

The fact this “story” even exists exhibits what a nasty irrelevant piece of spit on the world floor we are. On one hand you have Labour campaigning as the party of progressive thought. On the other you have the same cynical tired old gypsies resorting to any smear no matter how infantile to project themselves as ‘not as bad’ as some other lentil-munching, reactionary Trotskyist dimwits. Brexit can’t come soon enough so we can stop pretending then we have any currency or standing in the world.
Peter Dempsey
So is that all we’ll see on Broadsheet? Reviews of the papers and nothing else?
I hate this Irish shutdown at Christmas. You give out about banks getting an extra day off at Christmas but this business of most people not going back to work until 4th January is taking the p*ss.
