In the case of women who are told their babies may not survive outside the womb or if they do may only survive for a few days or weeks, who is anyone to define what constitutes a valid life?
There are many women who have borne babies like this and have cherished the precious short hours, days or weeks they have had with their babies.
Isn’t there something very beautiful about a woman loving a baby which may only live for a few hours so completely and unselfishly. That child will know nothing in his/her life except complete and pure love. The alternative of aborting him/her doesn’t add up in my view.

Middle aged white men are obsessed with womens bodies
Hey, at least we know who news is now
This is true.

yeah, but what about them ‘adult art’ magazines under your bed, bertie? you know, the ones with the pages stuck together?
Ah my darling mother once said
“we found your bed son, it was on top of your porn stash”
LOL
Once again the concept of choice seems like an alien concept.
We’ve already heard from women who decide not to travel to the UK have an abortion in these cases. We’ve heard from women who do.
There seems to be some suggestion that if we removed the 8th there would only be once choice (abortion) and that women will always choose that or that decision will be forced upon them. That doesn’t add up in my view.
Spoken like a man who has never and will never have to deal with that situation
“Isn’t there something very beautiful about a woman loving a baby which may only live for a few hours so completely and unselfishly.”
Joking aside, that’s genuinely disturbing.
extremely
I tweeted him a link so lets see if he comes on…
You are hoping to score from this. Fair play.
Holding the dead infant? Or commenting upon it?
The comment was disturbing. ‘Isn’t there something beautiful..’ almost sounds like he enjoys the thought of a mother only getting to have their child for a few hours before it dies.
It was a bizarre comment to include in election literature.
Like the chap below says, it’s just like Mother Theresa’s belief that suffering is a pathway to God. There is nothing beautiful about devastating human suffering. Guys like him are just sick.
That’s up there with Mother Theresa’s belief that the world gained much from the suffering of the poor.
IONA ‘Institute’?
So true. How could the 1% flourish without the aid of the 99%?
Who is he appealing to? Women are too dim and men don’t get pregnant. He probably talking to himself.
Typical religious bottrotter, can’t realise his ideals are nothing but fantasy in his head. If he wants to cherish the half day of life a child has that’s his business
These lads can’t mind their own business, the nosey catholic culture has them incapable of it, not everyone considers a dying child a miracle, most don’t in fact.
“You’re glowing! When are you due? You must be so excited! Have you the nursery done yet? Boy or girl? Any name ideas?”
“My baby will die minutes after birth if not before.”
Repeat a few dozen times for 9 months.
This guy is a misogynistic sadist, nothing more.
sadly, this ^
well said!

Probably the most important he says in this “article” is near the end:
"It is imperative that people ask general election candidates where they stand on this issue. This issue is too important to fudge.">
He’s absolutely right on this if nothing else, and I for one will be doin exactly that of all my candidates.
what way do you stand on the issue?
One boot on the neck, right knee slightly bent.
Tommy, come back to me with your opinions when you’ve grown a womb.
Or even just some empathy.
“Here, have this baby just to watch it die (possibly in pain) while there’s nothing you can do.”
‘Beautiful’ alright…
…. and failing all that as Catholics we are going to follow the message of Jesus and not judge anyone and welcome all Gods children with open arms….
“The alternative of aborting him/her doesn’t add up in my view.”
But it does for lots of other people, so why not give them the option?
Jesus-like sacrifice mandates adequate worship. I expect Tommy to kneel and cross himself every time he sees a woman. Donations and prayers are welcome too.
“There are many women who have borne babies like this and have cherished the precious short hours, days or weeks they have had with their babies.”
Yeah and there are many women who have “borne babies” like this and have been completely traumatised by an experience they were forced to endure.
Nobody is saying “abort all imperfect fetuses” — only to give the choice to avoid trauma on the part of the parents and what is likely to be a short, tortuous existence for the poor unviable baby!
Tommy takes great pride in the fact that he’s gay. His attitude towards women would give the opinion that his homosexuality is borne not from the love of men but from the hatred of women.
Tommy, if you’re reading this article (and I suspect you are), can I suggest you look up the meaning of the following words as you obviously don’t understand them:
misogynist
compassion
Could we have his view on what happened in Tuam.
again spoken like a true Irishman of a certain generation for whom this will never be an issue. Dont white Irishmen just love womens bodies? #repeal
