Top O’ The Mourning ??? FFS. That’s not the headline for the Oirish edition as well is it?

The Daily Star know their readers, and their ‘readers’ would regard this as ‘witty’.
-What did you expect?
Sam
I didn’t expect better, I was wondering what they would put on the Oirish version, and it seems to be some daft tripe about twitter users spelling Wogan’s name wrong.
It is amazing how much oul Terry was loved across the water
Neilo
Not all that amazing: Wo-Gan was a beloved communicator with a sly wit. When our brand identity was in the toilet in the UK – thanks, IRA dickbags! – he kept a candle lit in the window for his compatriots.

That’s right – because how the other crowd over there see us is so so important.
Atticus
Well considering how many Irish people lived and worked there, yeah I’d say it was important alright.

Relevant but not related at all to what I said.
Atticus
How so?
Deluded
Quite correct Neilo.
He was Irish at a time when it was neither profitable nor popular ; )
In Australia, his inappropriate statements during the Eurovision Song Contest, about various European countries and cultures, resulted in SBS (The Aussie station that broadcasts the show), using the RTE coverage, rather than the BBC coverage. More recently, the Aussies have sent their own commentators over. They manage to be very funny, without offending people.

Ah yes, Australia. That wonderful bastion of political correctness and humour.

Yes, Australia, with one of the most multicultural populations in the World. So, a TV commentator, who is playing to his domestic focused ‘Johnny Foreigner’ mindset audience, is going to cause offense.
It has its bogans and rednecks, it is a nanny state, etc., but you can’t have everything :) .
Also, I find your comments about Wogan in Australis difficult to believe. When I visited Oz, I was shocked at how genuinely & openly racist much public discourse was relative to Europe in general (I am including Ireland & the UK in that).

Thanks for the map of “Economic effects of Domestic and Neighbouring Countries’ Cultural Diversity” . Interesting, but not showing actual cultural diversity.
I have already acknowledged that there are racists in Oz (Bogans and rednecks). It is also true that Terry Wogan’s commentary at the Eurovision was unacceptable.
classter
Really, IT, you lead with ‘I never saw any reason not to be Irish’?
The craven, self-hating implication of this headline is that he easily might have have seen a reason.

An Eight Page special by the Indo?! A bit OTT, I mean he was big in Britain fair enough but how many people listened to him this side of the pond?
Quint
OTT reaction from the Irish press, especially the Indo who are trying to claim him back with the absurd ‘Voice of Ireland’ nonsense. He was the Voice of Britain, they made him and loved him. He just happened to be Irish and got out of the place as soon as possible.

You’re being OTT as well.

I saw something earlier on about the BBC website spelling his name wrong.

Australia is far from the most multicultural population in the world (as is most of the fist world).
