      Brilliant Fergus, Thanks for posting.
Every dog lover should accost candidates on this, along with demanding proactive attention to the despicable state of animal charities barely surviving with no government nor indeed even lottery funding.
And of course legislating harsh punishments for the scum who perpetuate animal cruelty.

What about well-behaved dogs being allowed on buses again, as they always were until Ireland turned ladylike and up itself in the Celtic Tiger?

That’s a rescue dog that Kevin saved when it was on the cusp of being put down. He nursed it back to health, feeding it a nutritious gruel enriched with his own blood. He loves the dog so much it sleeps in his bed while Kevin sleeps in a kennel outside.

Kevin has spent the past seven years at the train station waiting in vain for Hachi to come home.

Oh..haha, I said I was trying to see through the tears, didn’t I?
That was a typo. I meant barbed wire. That’s it! I was trying to see the film through the barbed wire we keep here. For bedding & suchlike.

Hachi was a Japanese Akita, but I have an American Akita and they are very similar in nature – for obvious reasons. I’ve had many large dogs during my life, but none have ever displayed such intelligence, cognisance and sensitivity as Akitas, and I’m not just basing this on my dog, any Akita owner will tell you the same; there’s something different about them which is contrary to how I’ve previously experienced dogs as being – they have real independence of thought and personality, and if they’re well trained they are very loyal companions; however, they do need lots of attention, exercise and a purpose, otherwise they can become intellectually frustrated, and it shows in their behaviour.

Dogs are not cynical, lugubrious, mournful distrusting voters like us, if they had a vote they would split it into as many pieces as there were folks to pet them

My dog bit a PD once then spent the rest of the day licking his balls to get the bad taste out of his mouth.
