    1. well, that's tat

When I lived beside the 3 Arena (O2 back then) the dart was always the loudest and grimmest crowd of the year….. Rihanna concerts a close second

Saw four lads walking up to this in what looked like matching Jamaican bobsleigh team outfits, complete with wigs. And full-on blackface.

    1. MoyestWithExcitement

I dunno. I think sometimes the blackface thing isn’t that bad. Sometimes. Like if you’re playing dressup as a specific black person.

      1. Neilo

God damn it, the one time I dress up as Idi Amin to spice things up in the boudoir! I’ll never escape this.

      2. missred

I’m assuming you are white? Only such a person would try and decide on their behalf whether it’s offensive, racist and wrong or not. Which it always is, period.

          1. missred

If you need someone to explain someone to explain to you why blackface is wrong, you really are a lost cause.

          2. MoyestWithExcitement

No, I know why it’s wrong. That’s why I used to word ‘sometimes’. I’m curious though if *you* know why it’s wrong.

          1. missred

No I’m not. And I’m not being presumptuous, it is always someone white who thinks they can pick and choose when something is racist.

          2. meadowlark

Yes, precisely like you *decided* that blackface is racist. Some of black people may indeed find it racist, especially considering it’s use in the States, but others may not, and just see it as a white person attempting to dress up like a black celebrity/character. It all depends on the perspective with which an individual views it.

          3. MoyestWithExcitement

Well, you are being presumptuous. You simply don’t know if your average black bloke would find white guys dressing up as the Jamaican bobsleigh team offensive.

          4. missred

I didn’t “decide” that it’s racist, meadowlark, it is generally the accepted decent thing that it is indeed racist. And it’s not just in the States that it is viewed this way. Dressing up as a celebrity character by painting brown/black paint on yourself is just as racist as dressing as a minstrel. And you are doing the same as Moyest, thinking it is ok to say that in certain circumstances this is fine depending on “perspective”.

I actually cannot believe that I have to defend this. The mind boggles.

          5. Anomanomanom

Iv done “black face” as your calling it, I dressed up as Mr T so of course I painted my face black. I doubt anyone one was offended. So its not always racist.

          6. MoyestWithExcitement

“I actually cannot believe that I have to defend this.”

You’re being asked to show your thought process on a place where people have conversations. Relax and get over yourself.

“it is generally the accepted decent thing that it is indeed racist.”

Yes. *Generally*. I said it’s ok *sometimes*.

“Dressing up as a celebrity character by painting brown/black paint on yourself is just as racist as dressing as a minstrel.”

Why? Here’s your chance to show some actual thought. I assume you’re not just a gormless slogan chanter….or are you?

          7. meadowlark

With all due respect, missred, you’re the one who said that it is white people who “decide when something is racist or not”, and you did exactly this. I am not saying if blackface is racist or not, because I’m not black and I’m not going to make a claim I know nothing about. I know what makes it offensive to people, but I also know that not everyone will take the same view of one thing, and I haven’t the cultural perspective to even attempt a judgment. I am simply disagreeing with your statement that it is racist, “period”, because neither of us, or Moyest, can make that call.

        1. ethereal_myst

only such a person? I presume you mean white people

On their behalf? I presume you too are white (not that there is anything wrong with that)

Do you have any concept of how racist you are?

          1. Caroline

They call them the People of Colour, and one day we will contact them and find the answer, and white people on the internet will be at peace.

            One day.

    1. MoyestWithExcitement

Yeah, judging people for having harmless low brow fun makes me feel better about myself as well.

        1. MoyestWithExcitement

Cauuuuuse I’ve an ego so large it can’t grow any more? Well having people I’ve never spoken to before telling me I’ve a massive ego just inflates it further. Cheeeeears.

  2. Rob_G

It’s a pity that some people decided to litter, but if that’s the worst of it from an event with several thousand people in attendance, it’s not that bad.

Must remember to take photos of the state of the roads after the marathon in October. Sure ye’d be ankle deep in empty gel packs walking around, Joe.

    1. MoyestWithExcitement

Yeah but those guys aren’t working class and don’t wear scary baseball caps as leisure gear so the mess they make is perfectly acceptable.
