heard a few friends working in the IFSC saying the same thing, arse cheeks and wedgied hot pants as far as the eye could see

    C’mere to me Mick…
See when I was slagging you the other day? I was only messing.
You’re not as bad as some people say you are.

Are you going to be more funny stuff in the future, or is this just a one-off?

should his own daughters dress in some way provocatively in the future, will it be ok for other middle-aged men to slut shame them in this way? he used to be just annoying, this article makes him seem decidedly creepy.

Was also walking home that day. Everything on display and in your face. I don’t think he is being creepy here – you couldn’t help but thing jesus they look like child prostitutes when confronted by hundreds of them all basically wearing their underwear and makeup troweled on.

I have to agree. It’s one thing to show off your legs and your lovely curves etc but honestly Daisy Duke would be ashamed to be seen in the clothes some young girls are wearing. Like, 14 years old they are.

      1. Spaghetti Hoop

Ah Caroline…any man who writes an entire newspaper article solely about young girls’ attire and their asses is displaying lusting thoughts.

  5. Clampers Outside!

It’s a woman’s right to where what she wants Brendan, and you have no right to be offended. Long live third wave feminism! Hahahahahaha! :)

*looks up to avoid the lady-builders-cracks pushing through opaque sheer nylons everywhere…. walks into poll*

Because it’s almost pathological at this stage shoehorning your problems with women into every subject. It’s getting increasingly nasty and disturbing.

Go talk to someone for your own good.

          1. Clampers Outside!

I don’t believe I’ve been nasty or disturbing, thank you. And I have no problem with women.
I have issues with much of modern feminism’s makey up stats and pseudo academic science, and intentional misinformation though.

            Have a nice weekend :)

Clampers wistfully invokes the ancient right of say-what-you-like-about-women-and-not-get-criticised. Ah God be with the days.

Er Brendan, ‘Rihanna’ is a not a sex act. Nor does she behave like a porn star, she is a recording artist. Sometimes you can see her legs when she isn’t sitting behind a table. I know it’s shocking.

    1. Harry Molloy

ha! have not ever seen a Rihanna video? or heard her lyrics? or seen her interact with people, including fans, on twitter?

      she’s vile

      1. Mani

“Have you seen the way she gyrates? It makes my wee wee all hard and uncomfortable and mammy told me what happens then, she has to take me out the back and make it sick into a copy of Alive!”

          1. Nigel

‘Porn star’ is the new’ slut’ then? Thank heavens there are always new ways to shame women for behaviour middle aged men find distasteful. Although he rolls out ‘slutty’ too because a responsible father goes around calling young girls prostitutes and sex workers and then doing it again later in a national newspaper. I remember the time O’Connor spoke at the Philosoph in UCC dressed as a toilet. But I guess it’s okay for a guy to be a poo star.

          2. Nigel

Huh. Funnily enough that wasn’t meant to be a reply to Clampers but a general comment. How did I manage that?

          3. rotide

Happens to the best of us Nige, happened to me earlier on. Very annoying.

Anyway, I’m sorry but this article is not slut shaming in any way shape or form. It’s fair comment. There is certainly an argument to be made that 12 year olds should not be over sexualised.

          4. Nigel

The argument that under-12s should not be sexualised is spot on. A subject, we may suppose that needs to be handled with tact, sensitivity and careful analysis, Comparing the girls to child prostitutes and calling their musical idol a porn star is totally slut-shaming, though to give him the benefit of the doubt it probably wasn’t his intention – more about being a sarcastic dad voice for all of us who want these little girls to know just how hard we’re rolling our eyes at them.

  7. Eoin

Every generation has these talking heads who get outraged at how little clothes young women wear.

    1. mildred st. meadowlark

Actually… I remember when belt ‘skirts’ were a thing. I was a young wan at the time. My mammy refused to buy one for me. Can’t say I’m all that sorry now.

  8. Mulder

Rihanna, should someone try and explain to him, she is a singer.
She is not, a porn star or whatever.
He is a journalist all be it for the sindo.
Uphold the morals of the country at all costs.

    1. Frilly Keane

He was a lead singer himself one time
You’d think he’d have more empathy
      Wouldn’t ya

  9. Catherine McEntee

These young girls and all young girls for that matter, need guidance and their self-esteem built and boosted, so that they are aware that it’s them as a person, not what little they wear, that defines them.

Young people have images of scantilly clad females thrown at them round the clock from magazines, newspapers and the net. It’s not a positive thing for young boys to see either, it tarnishes their view of girls/women.

Young girls are emulating the images of what’s fed to them as attractive, fashionable, cool etc. Parents are to blame for allowing them to buy and wear these outfits along with society’s objectification and degradation of females.

They are at an increased risk of sexual assault dressing this way, I would imagine, from male degenerates who would consider them ‘fair game’ in their small, deluded, sexual predator mind – even though they are just children if 13/14.

  10. Mulder

It`s Bren O`Connor, i thought it was, anyway.
He is not a journalist or a columnist, he is a hired talking head.
Basically, anything to fill a column or 2 in the silly season will do.

  11. They Tried To Make Me Go To Rehab

this man is the only freak on display here

he’s somehow managed to roll slut shaming, prostitutes, fat shaming, the Jews, down syndrome and tramp into the same article. new lows even for the Sindo

a truly morally destitute individual, a national lampoon of himself
