and??
a community/area doesn’t deserve a pub?
Erm … Is… this… is this not just a bit of advertising?
Get your neck back in their pal
*rolls up window really quick*
*clunk*
will they look after it this time?
You say that like its something they were given.
Nothing negative in the post to imply the pub shouldn’t reopen.
erm lets have a look at the statement again shall we
“Sunset House, Ballybough pub [Dublin 3] where Michael Barr was shot dead in April, reopening under name of The Brendan Behan (Gannon’s)…”
Nothing negative in it, eh? It’s only a bit of advertising?
I beg to differ
Are they not just giving the reason why it had been closed?
Let’s try it without the tabloid angle
““Sunset House, Ballybough pub [Dublin 3] , reopening under name of The Brendan Behan (Gannon’s)”
I wonder will the new owners introduce the smoking ban.
The Smoking GUN ban, maybe.
*delighted with self*
Yeah!! That or the killing people ban!! Amirite!!!?
Brendan Behan himself would have marvelled at your wit
I LOL’d :)
+1

Hopefully they will do background checks on their staff.
And great to see that others in Gary Gannon’s family are doing well for themselves as well, despite being reared in the North Inner City.
Background checks on their staff?!
Garda vetting, they’re barmen not montessori teachers
Despite being reared in the north inner city? Do you want to attempt explaining that?
Irony I imagine. I hope
Gary Gannon was on the radio recently essentially saying the North Inner City wasn’t far off armageddon, that people raised in the area were lucky not all to end up as drug addicts, and that he shouldn’t be held up as an example of what people can achieve from the area.
I’m just glad that his brother also appears to have been able to get ahead in his career (by the looks of things, quite far ahead).
I would have thought naming a pub after Brendan Behan would be bad for business…
Why’s that then?
Well, for one he was a dipso, and another, he died ten minutes after being handed a pint in a pub, maybe that’s why.
Then again, they named an airport after George Best….
*searches for ‘Flight’ on myprime*
He was a brilliant writer and he grew up down the road, I think it’s a great name for a pub personally, just a shame it’s such a kip that chose it.
So is the pub he had his last pint :)
Bertie, because he was a chronic alcoholic who basically died in a bar.
Suppose that’s another way of looking at it alright :)
Brendan Behan got 12 years for shooting (and missing) a Garda, he used to joke “…a year for every foot I missed him by.” There y’are now.
This will be a hipster haven.
MARK MY WORDS
North inner city Dublin will have to prepare itself. The onsalught of skinny jeaned, bearded hipsters is going to make the locals cry. Children will be scared going to school because their community will now be ‘hip’. They’ll plead with the government to plough more useless $$$£££€€€ into their failed community programs.
I’ll order a zimmer frame now so that when this happens, I’ll be able to get down and see it myself.
I would be confident in saying that Matt Talbot Street is now, not overly dis-similar to how it was t was when he was a resident?
(I was going for t’was – apologies!)
That area could use a bit of gentrification
Previously.
Ha ha ha.
Let’s all laugh at the victims of drug gang terror and poor policing.
There’s no Matt Talbot Street in Dublin.
