This will be a damning report.

I’m sure Blair thought the right thing to do was be to stand by the US no matter what, undoubtedly due to what they suffered in 9/11 and maybe out of a sense of debt due to their role in WW2.
I think this shows Blair’s naivety in reading and analyzing the situation, and certainly a naivety in sizing up Bush.

Yeah, but if he reasons at that level, he shouldn’t be allowed out without a carer.

      1. Harry Molloy

it’s frightening that he reached the level he did, but then you look at the Uk and US now, doesn’t fill you with hope!

That’s a remarkably generous interpretation, and one which Blair would love for people to agree with.
He knew what he was doing, and he knew he wouldn’t end up in handcuffs. all the guff about him being ‘naive’ or showing ‘poor judgment’ is simply waffle to lead away from the fact that he manipulated public opinion and the information that was presented as justification. The fact that he can still enjoy a stroll outside of a prison cell is a damning indictment on a country that flatters itself as being civilised and law abiding.

But what will a damning report actually achieve? They’re both essentially out of politics. I doubt either will be indicted for anything.

this report is designed to ‘draw a line’ under the whole affair.
13 years after the fact, it is toothless, and the media spectacle will quickly move on, and Tony will be ‘old news’.
a ‘flawed man’ with ‘poor judgement’, but not a war criminal… that’s simply not cricket to accuse him of such malice.

No real changes will happen that will prevent a future PM from doing similar.
Can you imagine any prime minister of the UK $hitting their trousers at the thought of having their knuckles rapped in a report 13 years after they’ve unleashed an invasion?

@ Eoin – Well not quite.
If the Chilcot report is damning enough then he could face a “class” type action from the families of the 174 soldiers killed and those maimed, for maleficence in public office. Which won’t really be recompense for those affected by his crimes. And also he will probably have to stick his estimated £60M in Cherie’s name.
It will mean he will have to jet around the world as a pauper, on Cherie’s plastic. He will then have to fight off lawyers saying he purposely shifted the money etc. However he does it, he may well have lawyers chasing him all the way to hell.
In other news I read Kim Kardashian has lost 7 lbs.

    Nothing massively surprising so far.

I’m guessing Mercille is balls deep in it by now looking for something to back up his wild assertions from monday.

…poor Julien…having to read the report…doesn’t have your facility for making judgements based only on your superior knowledge and insight…

      1. rotide

The report is something like 2.6 million words so no, I’m not going to bother. The main points are summaraized though and are available through the evil mass media though. The main points are not surprising.

  3. Junkface

That report is probably around the same size as the average Terms & Conditions, no ones gonna read it all. It will be handed over to WordBot 4000.

ISIS are far more dangerous than Saddam ever was. Where is the shock and awe invasion? Bush, Blair and Howard should be in The Hague, facing charges. 250 killed in a single bombing in Iraq, this week.

  5. Friscondo

Saddam Hussein put it as well as anyone. Moments before he was hanged one of the mob shouted “go to hell”, and he replied “where, the hell that is Iraq”. This country was wilfully destroyed and over 30 million Iraqi’s live with the consequences every day. Not to mention the suffering endured in a completely destabilised region, one of the consequences of which is the current refugee crisis. This ironically, through Brexit, may be a contributory factor in causing the UK to fracture. Blair is a narcissistic sociopath and a truly evil man, along with Bush, Cheney, et al. Their epitaph is hundreds of thousands dead. And for what? Chilcott never answered that question. Husseins Iraq was never a strategic threat to US or UK.

  6. Kolmo

From the very start it was an ‘ol fashioned Oil grab – plain and simple. Except the natives objected and the predictable power vacuum dragged up old sectarian monsters by those wanting to fill vacuum – et voila – a 1000 shades of totally, 100% predictable mayhem.
    Same with Libya et al.

    War Criminals and spivs.

  7. moroccan rug dealer

Presidentiary monumentical whatchacallit and Blair as direct result of their actions have made the world what it is today.Too arrogant to listen to a pleading late King of Jordan… ” lLeave the middle east and Sadaam Hussein for us to sort out”. Muppets.

  8. Patsy8

    “The worlds worst terrorist”.
    The imbecile.
I swear to God that country has lost it’s marbles entirely.

  9. Junkface

The thing is all of the leaders in that region were nut job tyrants at the time. Saddam Hussein, Assad in Syria, Mubarek in Egypt, the list goes on and on….they have all mass murdered and tortured their people into submission over the years. The only reason they took out Saddam was that he was rude to Bush’s daddy, and they had masses of Oil fields.

  10. Mulder

Bush in photo is looking at Blair as if he is in a trance, which he possibly was and thinking, jeh, i can not believe that Tony is taking this seriously.
    So we must be right.
    Let`s nuke them.
Imagine the military advisors and Blair, trying to talk to bush telling him jesus h, christ, mr president, we can not use nuclear weapons on Iraq.
    There be a near miss.
