Some of the exotic racers assembled at Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats in 1966. Nearly 60 years after it became the home of the land speed record, streamlined rocket cars were already averaging 600mph (966km/h) across the vast salt pan.

    I saw the movie about Bert Monroe recently starring Anthony Hopkins. fascinating story and actually a very enjoyable movie, I’d recommend it.

    flashback to the early 90’s when Kellogg’s packed die-cast models of some of those vehicles in with the cereal. Magic stuff.

    I remember thinking this was of enormous importance when I was a kid. Like world shattering scientific breakthrough kind of thing.
