Earlier this morning.
At the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican City.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny and his wife Fionnuala met Pope Francis.
Mr Kenny gave the pope a print of a stained glass window by Harry Clarke while the pope gave Mr Kenny an etching of St Peter’s Basilica.
*It’s not a caption competition until you say so.*

MAJOR set back for any change in the abortion laws.
And little legion of mary types behind the scenes in RTE will make sure they do their bit to push Repeal off the agenda.
Wonderful.
pope f a la bricktop from snatch: listen boy, if you let that referendum pass i’ll cut your fukn Jacobs off..
Nah, Ireland is american bishops’ battleground
The legislation for non secular education in the schools? Don’t worry your holiness we canned it good! Buried it good and deep as well your holiness. And the 8th? Sure we’re only pretending to do that, pretend time can go on for ever. So you’ll visit them! Magic.
#Repealthe8th referendum needs to be held before Aug-2018.
shock as tickets to the pope’s gig sell out in 20 seconds only to appear at 100 times face value on seatwave moments later
Pat Hickey might help ;-)
It’s a shame Venus of Willendorf is in Austrian museum in real life :-) Enda would’ve liked it!
…ouch
He told him Messi is in decline, Dunphy said so.
Pic 3:
Pope Francy: “Guess what sound I am making?”
E&F:”no idea, tell us Frank”
Pope Francy: “A silenced priest!”
All: “Lol”
Kenny: You know that priest who summoned the Mayo curse? Can you, like, override that?
Jesuit scoundrels
sucking up to trump and the pope, what a champ
For anyone wondering…. a priest can forgive the *cough* ‘sin’ of abortion. That’s a pretty big step by the Vatican.
While not accepting abortion, it is still a big step back from ‘burn in hell’, in fairness.
I’m sure there’ll be a few of the usual intolerant muppets of the fix-everything-the-way-I-demand-it type on to say… that’s not good enough. Pity about them and their inability to see what that confessional bit means for those who wish to remain in the church (yes, some people do, imagine that).
Completely and totally irrelevant.
I don’t care if they can invoke their sky spirit’s forgiveness on command. Of what practical use is that in the debate around women’s healthcare in a secular republic in 2016?
It’s called reality. We don’t all live in a bubble of our own ideal world, we share it with others of different view points. Those people also live in a secular republic, no matter what the year.
The decision is is perfectly relevant to those who wish to remain in the church, and there are many who do. They vote too. I don’t subscribe to the lefts demonising of everyone that disagrees with them…. it convinces no one and drives potential agreeable types away… look at the US pres election for a prime example of how that works. Inclusive works better than demonising, even when the inclusion is on compromised terms with those you may normally disagree with on other issues.
My tuppence.
Clampers. You’ve misunderstood the recent abortion-confession an announcement. It’s complicated and wasn’t well explained by the Pope, his Curia or most of the media.
Firstly, any sin can and always could be forgiven by any priest with those faculties (ie every priest in the world who hasn’t been restricted from doing so). And these priests can do this anywhere in the world – as long as they have the authority of their bishop/superior. This includes the sin of procuring /carrying out an abortion. Note that this is a sin committed by anyone who makes an abortion possible – not just mothers.
The recent announcement was to allow all priests to remove the discipline of excommunication imposed on any one (automatically) by procuring an abortion. Previously only the Pope or bishops could remove this excommunication.
The sin is just as grave. It’s just that it’s easier to not be excommunicated – once a valid, sincere confession is made.
so if, as a nation we all vote to repeal the 8th amendment and therefore ‘make abortion possible’ – does that mean the entire country has sinned?
cos that would be totally cool – you can’t excommunicate an entire country.
Interesting question scottser.
No. In that sin is a personal thing. A whole nation can’t sin. We’re all responsible for our own actions.
Now, if I voted to repeal the 8th Amendment, would I be facilitating abortion(s) and would I have excommunicated myself. Some might argue that removing the 8th doesn’t, on its own, facilitate abortion. That’s tricky territory. Depends on what ones intention was when voting to repeal the 8th.
But all on an individual level.
you’re dead right clampers, that’s a mature and well thought out position to have
WTF is going on with you Clampers? You used to be a fairly tolerant person on here but you’ve taken a lurch to the right lately. Is it the Trump effect?
he hasn’t said anything intolerant though
in fact, clampers post has more to do with being tolerant than intolerant.
there’s a massive bang of irony from a lot of folk who would consider themselves to be liberal…
+1
I read this today and thought of Clampers and a few others.

He’s really surprised me recently – you can really tell when people adopt the language only found on certain websites by certain authors.
Those who wish to remain in the church or want nothing to do with the church cannot avail of an abortion in Ireland – the catholic church supports, funds and preaches in favour of this. That’s the issue.
Whether or not RomanChurch Ltd. forgives its sheep is a church matter, not a matter of state.
And I don’t buy the bullsh1t that not fighting back is how to win.
Clampers, I hope you get over the common delusion that drumpf was elected because of a failure by liberal elitism and political correctness etc. etc.
It happened because the DNC is corrupt and they picked a corrupt candidate. To top it all off people, not just poor ignorant redneck types have had it with corruption being paraded around in front of them as promises with no change in sight.
The church i.e. religion has no place being an influence over state or government affairs.
I don’t care what fantasy celestial dictator you prefer.
Peace and Love…

secular Ireland – this country is ruled by jesuits, and this display confirms it
Pope Francis: ‘So you’ve used the excuse of the constitutional convention that can only meet one day a month to kick the can down the road as far as 2018 and exculpate yourselves of any responsibility for decision making by devolving that responsibility – for which the government are paid – onto a bunch of statistically representative but carefully pruned randomers dredged up by the CSO and then as soon as I’ve drank a pint in Castlebar and waved goodbye from the tarmac at Knock you’ll pass a bill just progressive enough that young ones will stop wearing black jumpers but regressive enough that auld ones keep voting you in and say rosaries praising you for your fine leadership … Fionnuala you are a genius.’
Bravo!
Howyah Sham, haven’t seen you in ages?
Well holey God! Is that the missus with Kenny? Does she only come out on chraw-thumping days then!
Who wouldn’t want to see the art in Vatican? Way better than Downing street or White House drab. Mrs.Kenny made the right call.
State – “Looks like we’ll be together, forever after all, you old dog”
Church – “You betcha sweet cheeks, never had any doubt”
I’m not sure which is worse anymore or who is leading who down the global toilet…
Is it the dumb pseudo-leadership and post-political class now acting as middle managers for everything but the citizens, is it the imperialist jesuit and zionist influence or is it the warmongerering arms dealers, corporate-finance-market zombies…. maybe they are all equally the main source of the problems and woes of this planet?….
Keep voting like a proud collective bunch of morons, this is what you want this is what you get.
