Phoenix Christmas annual is out now people. Had a quick thumb through earlier, great read as always!

it was ever so: the advertising department regarded copy as gluing together the ads, while the journalists regarded ads as an irritating necessity to get their content to readers.

Or in computerland, the Sales team will consider the Dev team to be overhead.

The Dev team’s opinion of the sales team would probably get me onto the moderated list.

Who still buys the weekday Independent? I know the Sindo makes money, but is the Mon-Fri Indo making any money? The paper’s a rag.

it’s not about paper sales, it’s all about squeezing as many ads in between the propaganda as is possible, paper sales are completely incidental

      1. Cot

Yes, I know that, but in order to have advertisement sales, you have to have paper circulation numbers. The greater the number, the more you can charge someone to advertise in the newspaper. Is the Indo Mon-Fri. even covering the cost of production and staff, is how, perhaps, I should’ve put it.

The indo gets 4k per loose insert(aldi/lidl,sky,virgin leaflet), they get about 2k for each ad within the paper that more than covers the overheads

          1. Cot

They only get 4k for each loose insert? I thought they’d get far more. What’s the deal with the Irish Times? When will it finally go belly up?

Irish Times is just as scummy & bought off.

Can’t believe people read the propaganda from either of them.

Well it’ll be gone soon. Along with any residue of responsible broadsheet journalism. You’ll be happy then?

No doubt you’ll be delighted scouring factoid fake news sites on the internet to find out what’s going on the world. We can all find something there to fit with our hunches. Trump-style strongmen will love it. Nobody to hold them to account.

Or maybe you’d prefer it Chinese style? http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-38005603

Yes, your logic is flawless. I was delighted with the state of things back then too. It suited my bizarre agenda of fake news promotion. You numpty.
