Francis Fitzgerald preparing for a can kicking excercise. The newspaper reports, which are usually based on snippets of “information” dropped from the captains table to the hungry “reporters” are full of words like Considering, Outline, Propose and phrases like Consults The Opposition, Outline Potential Scope.
It’s easy to please reporters, and by the same token, editors. Note that the words “investigative journalism” is a very rarely used phrase these days. If such a thing existed, we would see whistleblowers going to newspapers firstly.
What we have nowadays is Treat Journalism. The “reporters” are fed a few little treats from the pigs table, and live off that. When something is said in the Dail, live on TV, these “reporters” have little choice but report it, but as their feeders are the likes of Fitzgerald, they dumb it down, or come out with “bottle of smoke” phrases.

What a load of giddiypoo to get us started this fine morning. It is up to the journalist to chase the story . A decent journo does not need an adjective to describe what is their bloody job . Perhaps, in an age where the Daily Mail/Sindo/ Bloggers/Columnists/Social media numpties are now calling themselves journalists , then the phrase may be used ( warning: you may be considered insecure) . Am guessing Robert Fisk is happy to just be described as a journalist.

Giggidypoo you say? And then you agree with what I’d written.

There’d be more investigative journalism if people actually paid for news.

…not a mention of Tom Savage…he was eulogized last night by Vincent Browne who had attended his funeral…I’m not sure everyone would share Vincent’s high opinion…
Peter Dempsey
I’m sure they don’t share yours either.

the Irish times – “146000 wrongly summonsed to court”. that figure is surely 14,600. a gross error by the paper of record
LW
the 14,600 is the number of people wrongly convicted, 10% of the total summonsed

Horrific event in St. Petersburg. I don’t see much ‘pray for Russia’ on the tweet machine. I guess post-tragedy national sympathies are very selective.
NATO agitation in Russia..
…are you accusing NATO of the Petersburg bombing?
Wait, no. I retract the question. Never mind.
