That Daily Mail headline is indicative of the sort of English attitude that we could do without infecting Irish political life. The pathetic Brexit referndum campaign showed how disastrous it is for public debate and good decision-making.

There are clearly significant differences between water charges as proposed by the last Fg govt and the latest proposals.

maybe so but I don’t think there will be any changes here..twas always a charade but a puzzling one…what did they think they’d achieve from it? Im just amazed anyone bought into FF story at any point…clearly and obviously bandwagoned it…the fear of SF must be massive in there.

maybe they thought they could fiddle with this until the next natural GE came along but the IMF lads placed a phone call warning that their friends are getting concerned that the revenue schedule is slipping…

exactly. we are incapable of making tough decisions so we need the trokia to be the bogey man we can blame for making us do the bad things.

And the two “” Leaders “” Kenny and Martin are where exactly? We all know that Kenny is being jettisoned in a few weeks, but has Mickey Martin already been?
I wait in anticipation for these two parties(actually, one party now) to come knocking for my vote

…really thought the FFers were playing a blinder up to now…never thought they would roll over so meekly…just heard Barry Cowen on radio…by the sound of him grovelling, that humiliation must have been part of the deal…

Mickey’s been in hiding for nearly two weeks

He’s putting together his own war-room
FFers are not a bit happy with Dublin Jim getting all the camera time

There’s a boyo in Banner country doing the same thing………………..

“tough decisions” yup that old chestnut
our elected reps are certainly incapable

meanwhile did any of ye see Peter Kay’s Car Share is back on the telly last night? I thought it was very disappointing…one of those classics they should’ve left alone I reckon

don’t say this, Martco. I’ve it recorded on the sky box and i’m looking forward to it.

The first episode can be a tricky one to get right, so have faith.

In the meantime, just hop onto youtube and watch the Sammy Snake scene from Phoenix Nights again.

“Put a woolly hat on it and say it’s you.”

Toilet humour done right. How come this is one of the funniest things ever, and Mrs Brown’s Boys one of the least? There’s a real subtlety to puerile humour.

it’s just magical clever uncomprimised writing I think possibly aided by substances that enhance that creativity (a bit like a pinch of salt in Chocolate ice cream does)

you’ll watch likes of Phoenix Nights, Ted, Fawlty, Yes Minister, the Day Today…in 20 years and enjoy it and see relevance in it

          thank jasus for it!

The people who don’t pay for anything won’t be happy about this water u turn. Are we still on course for privatisation? The thoughts of the utility being sold off is what bugs me

Even if that had been the plan initially (I don’t think so, personally, but I’m sure that many here will maintain that it was), I don’t think any party would dream of doing so now. The whole issue is just too politically toxic.

You’re right, the likes of Apple won’t be happy about having to pay their bills for a change but they have plenty of money, in fairness.

…agree Steve…I take back all I said about a FF/SF coalition…I think history will tell that today was the day that FF/FG came together…with hindsight they have been calling themselves ‘the middle’ for some time…

      1. Lord Snowflakee

It’s about time the centre-right merged, the pretend civil war thing was getting old.

It will be fun to watch the left’s efforts at merging together in response – LOL

I see the Independent got the Memo to push the ‘WASTERS’ line, as the new divide and conquer mantra.

    1. Lord Snowflakee

“Anti-social wasters” or “ungrateful parasites” would have been a better description in fairness

    2. Kieran Nice Young Chap

And “establishment” and “elites” aren’t a divide and conquer mantra?

      ;)

Truly fantastic news for people with CF yesterday, it’s a terrifying condition and this drug alleviates much of that terror significantly!

Well done to all involved, however it was done.
