Our 21st birthday issue is just out and to celebrate 21 years of bringing you the best in Irish homes and interiors, we put together the 21 icons of every Irish home ✨💕 Hands up who can probably find all of these in their mam’s house? 🙋😂
Thanks Ciara Lee
Brown Thomas bag? In “Every Irish home”? Is the air at House and Home very rarified?
Ah, go on. We all partied.
The present that was so special that the bag was kept pristine, was the way I read it.
In my mam’s house? I could find 15 of them in my own house!
+1 = 16
Where’s The Lady on the Rock?
That’s more of a Dublin phenomenon (do do be doobie). To my knowledge it’s never really ventured beyond the Pale.
Actually, speaking of which, what’s the deal with always having the same statue in two windows above each other? Usually it’s the sitting room and the master bedroom. I’ve even seen houses where they had the same fake flowers in the same vase, on two floors.
It’s a working-class thing, I think.
More of a Dublin 8 thing; I don’t recall ever coming across them living on the northside.
riverdance should be replaced by the video of JPII’s visit.
no infant of prague?
anyway, there were 9 of those in my Irish-American home, including the mary-shaped bottle of holy water.
Yeah, where’s that headless horror? And the bag of clothes pegs, and the ball of carefully-wrapped string spilling from the dresser drawer, and the broom, and the copy of All in the Cooking?
All in the cooking, yeah ha.
And where’s the apple tart? I don’t think thon house is Irish at all!
+ scones
bag of knitting
Well there you go now, only wooden spoon in common with my mams house. . How times have changed
Apart from the cat and the BT bag it got my ma’s gaffe pretty much spot-on.
The tea caddy! Can someone tell me where I could get one of those these days?
