Live from the Ploughing Championship today on RTÉ radio and telly
Of RTÉ’s wall to wall ploughing coverage…
Aidan writes:
I know the National Ploughing Championship is a big deal but this is not the Second Coming for pity’s sake…
Every show. Every fupping show?
Can anyone recall ten years ago if the national broadcaster even bothered to send a second camera unit to the championships?
This is shameless bogger exploitation by a station fighting for its life.
*furrows brow*

I wonder what the secret Rte producer guy/gal on twitter has to say about it. It’s interesting stuff.

With over 200,000 attendees each year it certainly deserves air-time.
for sure it merits airtime but in the last 3 or 4 years it’s like a memo went around RTE that the ploughing is a new sacred cow that every available resource must be thrown at.
you’ll find 100k+ at the Rally of the Lakes in Killarney every year but no RTE footage. Same goes for dozens of events who would only be glad of free and fawning RTE PR
Still can’t watch the all ireland final abroad but this poo is on all day.
Blame that on the GAA who sell the rights to different organisations aborad
So now someone’s giving out that RTE has cottoned on to something that’s really popular. They can’t win.
Ha. True

EVERY RTE moan comes down to “I Don’t like this, why is it on TV… I pay for this you know …”
Its the annual welly fest for RTE. People like Aine Lawlor are sent down to patronise the peasants and will never set foot on a farm again for the rest of the year. Ear to the Ground was the only thing ever on Tv about farming until last year when they had a huge hit with A week on the Farm. Then they discovered Marty Morrisey, Nathan Carter and became utterly unbearable. Next thing they will discover that 300k attend Novenas annually and religion will be back. Muppets.
3 words for you hoss “Mart and Market”!
Far more peasants in the cities than the countryside
ah will you let them have their fun, it’s just a few country folk playing around in the turf, they’re well outside the pale so no threat to us at all, leave them be.
Keep on ploughin’
that’s it really.
Mart and Market. Anyone any idea of where I can listen to the theme music from that ? Back in the 80’s I worked in a factory that employed lots of farmers and a young lad from Limerick city used to walk around whistling it 2 minutes after, every single farmer would be humming/whistling it with big smiles on their faces.
I uploaded this some years ago. Brief snippet of Mart And Market at 3:16

Bogger expolitation ? I thought broadsheet was left leaning and pro equality ? Why allow such discriminatory language?
Labour Luvvies in Hunters wellies.
If they’re down to using The Fair City “actors” they’re ploughing a barren furrow there.
Wjhat’s the RTE market ploughshare compared with TV3 these days?
Public Service Broadcaster Broadcasts Public Interest Programming…… PICTURES AT 11!
It has to be said that is a cracking headline though
Shirley, it’s just a super event for selling to advertisers……..you’ve got everything down there from a fancily-presented, must-have flan to girleens doing runway fashion shows. Covers the lot.
I just think of ploughing as the Aussies use it and snigger away to myself like a simpleton.
If you tolerate this then your suck calves will be next
Fair City’s Paul is really filling out that waistcoat.
