I just spent a few minutes researching donut v doughnut.
Please use doughnut, as apparently you’re promoting Dunkin’ Donuts otherwise.
Now I’ve used the word too often and it’s lost all meaning.
During your research, did you find where the ‘nut’ part of the name originates?

That’s all it is, a craze, like the other short-lived trends that were mentioned here.
The key is to know the next fad, not wonder about the last one.
