Great photo feature on Ireland’s disappearing shop fronts in The Guardian (at link below), including Wil I AM – from Offaly (above)

Angling for Firearms? Ah here….
That was a great piece in the Guardian. Well worth reading the comments underneath as well.
The our.type page on Instagram is well worth a look.
I miss the Manhattan too.
That shopfront is in Banagher. Down the street from it is the wonderful trompe d’oeil facade of the Railway Bar. It’s featured on the our.type Instagram page.
Creehy’s shop in Lismore, as featured in the Guardian piece, is a great example of how a now closed retail premise can be preserved and how the integrity of traditional streetscapes in rural towns and villages be maintained.
+10 (Savage pints of Guinness in Guiry’s, Foxford)

You can add the original ‘Gigs place’ on that as well.
It would make sense to also preserve the crafting process for these shopfronts, the materials, the tools, the method, the time frame, the man hours etc etc. I would hope that there are still craftspeople that possess this knowledge and would like to share it.
