A trailer for Grey Area, a documentary urging the licensing of public space in Dublin into public art (written proposal at link below).

Grey Area writes:

We want to transform Dublin in to an open air gallery but primarily we want to assist in Ireland’s recognition as a cultural juggernaut….

“SUBSET is a collection of artists”, they are self described marketing agency.

Here is a more extensive version of that quote above (emphasis mine):

“What we do changes almost every day but so far we have worked on multiple artistic projects, most notable being our Stormzy, Gracie and Donald Trump pieces which have been a catalyst for discussion surrounding Dublin City Council’s approach to large format artwork in the public realm. We have also worked on client projects for brands such as Dublin City Council, Paddy Power, Red Bull Music, Conor McGregor, BMW, Dr. Marten’s, Kendrick Lamar and the DAA, to name but a few, in areas such as Sponsored Art Campaigns, Visual Communication, Video Production, Photography and Interior Design. We want to transform Dublin in to an open air gallery, we have aspirations of transforming the marketing industry but primarily we want to assist in Ireland’s recognition as a cultural juggernaut.”

So this is clearly not a bona fide campaign to allow more street art – it’s a bunch of hallions who want to paint advertisements over every grey wall in Dublin and make a fat wedge of cash out of doing so.

+1 for trying to add colour to grey parts of the city

-2 for trying to disguise it as something it is not – a nice billboard
