Sorry to the undercover project, this thread went off on one. Don’t mind them, they’re really not worth it. .

I suppose the point I was making was that while it’s great so see the corps like LinkedIn doing their bit, it is worth remembering that not all employees are so lucky. I only shared my own personal experiences because that sort of thing is a lot more common than some think.

Switchboard do some brilliant work but may I suggest a little more back to basics approach? Most people do not have a problem with their sexuality, only with other people’s prejudice. The same could be said of other areas like gender and race of course but by helping them to develop the skills to deal with such nips a lot of other problems in the bud. Gay Men’s Health Service used to run a brilliant personal development course in Outhouse, is that still going I wonder?

LOL. I’m a straight person with all sorts of alphabeticals and I feel very discriminated.

It is only annoying if you have a vested interest in that particular subject Bernie.

I have a friend who is an anthropologist. He knows there is a wealth of human interest stories up north which will never see the light of day, which is a crime in its own right. And no, I am not trying to score tribal or any other points by saying that, it is just sad is all.

      1. Bernie

SOQ, I have a vested interest in the truth being made available from every angle, in all situations, not the same lazy response being barked out each time Sinn Féin/Nationalists/Catholics are mentioned.

Your refusal to look and move forward is akin to that of the DUP and their regressive reprobates. I could relay a multitude of recent and historical tales (that would be favourable to my own political standpoint) with the purpose of riling up anger, mistrust and outrage against certain individuals and groups, would that assist in progress? I could write daily posts on what the Black and Tans did to my family, what the RUC/PSNI did to other family members, the gritty unlogged, unblogged and unbroadcasted disgusting deeds they inflicted on a regular basis – will that help move us all on????

stop you have a friend,i guess there’s someone for everyone-is he a “wheelie” by any chance!
    Hi Bernie:)

    1. SOQ

OK Johnny, your mindset is obviously about one upmanship so let me tell you my story.

I have lost three jobs in my life through no fault of my own. Two because I was gay and one because I was perceived to be a Catholic. First two over 20 years ago and one quite recent. The older has a certain irony as one was a particular Catholic organisation and the other was the complete opposite.

In the first, after six months, I told someone I was gay at Friday lunchtime and by evening the agency got a call that I was no longer required and in the second, I was removed after pushing back against snide sectarian remarks. The third was anti gay by Christians so yeah, full circle.

Hand on heart, there was no difference between those experiences, the same frustration, the same gut anger. And now we have ‘radicals’ attempting to block genuinely religious people with the same mind numbing stupidly. The more we change, the more we stay the same.

Oh and……. anybody who ever disabled a young fella is never getting off the hook.

      1. johnny

you went on and on and on and on,so much about wheelchair’s/’wheelies’ the IRA/SF that i actually assumed you were in one-look it up on Broadsheet-type in wheelchairs and your many, many posts/comments appear !
i took it extra easy on you as i assumed your were disabled/or a ‘wheelie’,being gay in 2018,doesn’t give you license for fake outrage regarding disabled people,in fact constantly evoking them is craven and crass, its a insult to the many people actually in wheelchairs.
like i’ve told you many times i don’t give a flying f**k about your life or experiences or sexual preferences. or your ‘story’-who cares its Broadsheet not some self help group.

      2. soq

Nothing to say Johnny? The problem with getting under my skin is that you will find real blood.

        1. johnny

about what,i literally have no idea what your talking about.
the bit missing is wheelchairs/wheelies its the same sh*it as usual.
          Gays/religion/homosexuality/religion/gays/homosexuality/religion/ays/gays/religion…….

          1. Johnny

go find a self help group to “share” your story,I could care less-I didn’t even read it-why would I-you bore me.

          2. mildred st meadowlark

For someone who ‘couldn’t care less’ you sure do spend a lot of time commenting on SOQs posts.

          3. Johnny

Oh Mildred sigh,is this a cunning trap to lure me into exchanging some witty repartee laden with sexual innuendos, and pithy one liners.
Gosh a shinner who speaks up,the temerity Mildred, what’s the world coming to,oh for a world where those uncouth shinners knew their place….

          4. mildred st meadowlark

Oh, you’ve got me pegged Johnny. I didn’t realise I was so transparent!

Anyway, I don’t really care what your spat with queenie is about. I simply found you saying you ‘don’t care’ amusing. Your comments seem to imply otherwise.

          5. Johnny

You’d have ask the “mods” Mildred, I’m getting sucked into an exchange-as my fav contestant on Survivor is fond off saying -“I’m not here make friends” !
Goddamit cant’t believe I fell for it Mildred:)

            (held in queue-they overlapped)

  2. Bernie

Mildred / Janet, frankly, that’s rather obtuse commentary from you both. Blindly defending someone is reprehensible.

    1. mildred st meadowlark

If you could point out where I ‘defend’ SOQ in my above comment that’d be great.

    1. mildred st meadowlark

      Smarm lol. Right.

I didn’t realise an observation now qualifies as a defense. Must have missed the memo.

  3. Bernie

What else would you call it? Yes, smarm.

Next time a little charm wouldn’t go amiss. Goodnight.

    1. mildred st meadowlark

I would have called it a polite and reasonable comment, but clearly you feel otherwise. Goodnight indeed.

      1. Bernie

Harry, how are your two Gardaí sons faring out in the force? Embroiled in many scandals yet?

You can’t put perfume on a pig, as the man says…

        1. Bernie

A Garda hailing from the highest order of cunce, is based in my local barracks, proud Mayo man too. C*ntology must be a common trait in that jurisdiction.

  4. Huey Luas on the News

If LinkedIn and Co paid more than their 12.5% tax to the people of Ireland, we might address some of the issues being discussed here. But nah… and let’s exacerbate the housing crisis while we’re at it.

    1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

People really do have their panties in a bunch. Sand up the wotsits. Must be the heat.

      1. Joe Small

I don’t know how anyone can take it so seriously. I used to go to politics.ie for completely batty views – now they’re all right here. Maybe its because Broadsheet is focussing on a lot more serious social issues today. Hard to be flippant about abortion, LGBT rights etc., compared to bad parking.

  5. Bernie

Mildred, Harry can say what he likes by calling people ‘cunce’ but I shouldn’t respond? How does that work? Get a life FFS.

  6. SOQ

I’ve just had a very interesting conversation.

    johnny, are you Johnny Keenan?

John Ryan, is this poster ‘johnny’ an employee of yours?

I would appreciate an answer from both of you. Thanks.
