Áine Fitzgerald, in the Limerick Leader, writes:
A bank’s effort to repossess the house of a woman in Limerick has been described as “scandalous, inhuman and an evil state of affairs”.
The woman in her 50s with one child owes just €16,000 on the property which is worth over €300,000. She was five months in arrears.
She ended up in Croom Hospital after an “extremely serious accident,” and contacted the bank to explain her situation and vowed to repay the money owed. She is incapacitated on ongoing basis.
But last week the Bank of Ireland brought an application at the Repossession Court to have the house repossessed, which was vehemently opposed by her solicitor, Ger O’Neill.
‘Evil move’ by bank to repossess home of sick Limerick mum (Limerick Leader)

that is why they were bailed out, don’tyaknow…
We’re back baby….
Lets hear our good friend Cian defend this

Me? I don’t know the details – so why would I defend it. As the story is told it is outrageous and the bank it wrong.
But the devil is in the detail – we are only getting one side of the story. So who knows?
i’ll go….
i’m not buying for one minute that the bank would bring a repossession order after only 5 months, that would be completely at odds with any mortgage arrears case i’ve heard of or experienced
especially with only 16k on the books outstanding – it wouldn’t stand a chance in court.
I agree, there are very few repossession cases, as far as I know. In most cases that I’ve ready about, they’ve been in arrears for 3-5 years and have been living rent-free in the house for all that time, refusing to engage with the bank, with a huge arrears built up – and the judges usually deny the repossession anyway. The reported facts of this case don’t add up.
I do hope they get a judge with common sense. The day a judge tells a bank to go do one and cancels the rest of a perdons mortgage, is the day this sh1t stops
As long as county registrar keeps telling bank to go and sh*te, it won’t get near a judge. :)
“The County Registrar didn’t grant the Order and the case was adjourned.”
Good.
Bank of Dire-land
And this will continue to happen because of the spineless weasels that dare to call themselves politicians, happily sunning themselves at the moment, salivating at their joyous trip on the gravy train. We,the taxpayers, bailed out the banks but even though they are deemed to be “State supported”, the Minister for Finance cites laws are in place that won’t allow the Government to dictate good practices. If the Government aren’t law makers, who are they?
Worth going over the mortgage history and find some overcharging I’d say.
FFG and their henchmen in the form of these banks need gone
…we could crowdfund Vanessa, celeb accountant, to examine this history…
Did she owe just €16,000 in total or was that just in arrears. But either way its ridiculous. Going sightly off subject but, If its just the €16,000 in total owed and she genuinely is incapacitated, surely cases like this is what social welfare or state aid is for. Its no brainier for the state to just pay the €16,000 and then money can be paid back slowly to the state. That’s what social welfare was meant to be, for the actually welfare of the citizens, but morphed into the mess we have now. A loan scheme for cases like this are a lot more needed than say children’s allowance to people who don’t need or paying the dole to wasters who have never worked.
In fairness a lot of dole wasters worked at one point but then decided they had enough. I know a few fellas who opted out of the whole go to work thing for over ten years now. They are good at filling out forms and pulling the caring for elderly parents scam. The elderly folks are now dead or dying and when that happens they can pull the long term perma-unemployed scam for another 25 years then get state pension. They’ll probably be dead from alcohol abuse and too many roleys before then though, these lads are out 3 to 4 days a week. The dole subsidies the public houses more than anything else.
I know a good few myself. But joking a side, I agree with welfare. But it should be used for cases like that women’s, some one genuinely needs it. Also the banks need a good spanking.
I’ll have a go at what happened here. Bankers are filth. They are supported by the filth in Leinster House. The public are finally waking up to the antics of the filth that have been lording it over the citizens of this country. FF, FG, Labour, IA …. all filth bags.
The bank can’t repossess for €16K arrears. Who is the solicitor acting for them?
