Why is the calibre of the Defence Forces recruits only being questioned now? They’ve always been tossers that can’t find employment elsewhere, every army is full of the dregs of society.

Simple.. folksy.. non challenging.. they might be better words.. the flip side is that we have the only army, possibly anywhere at any time in history who are a collective criminal enterprise.. and for that we should all be most thankful.. and I know about these things..

I don’t think that’s fair. They train and work hard, obey orders, and frankly don’t get paid very well for serving the state. The army isn’t full of tossers looking for a job.

      Jeez….

“We can be flexible on border”
it’s utter insanity to allow the European union to use us as a stick to beat the British in these negotiations. On issues surrounding the border the Irish government should negotiate with the British government directly. Border issues aside the UK is by far our biggest trading partner. We share the same language and for better or worse our cultures align.
People have short memories, it was only 10 years since the EU and ECB shafted us in bailing out the financial institutions of Europe. We were plunged into years of austerity but EU officials washed their hands of the problem. They will do the same again to play hardball with the British so as to deter any other countries from leaving the EU.

We shafted ourselves with the bank guarantee, then the EU had their way with us.

We shafted ourselves with stupid loans and hundreds of thousands of houses where they weren’t needed. This is why we never had an investigation into planning corruption because half the country was in on the scam to some degree.
The EU, obviously, advised against this behaviour.
Then we guaranteed the bail-out (Whether you like it or not Fianna Fáil are Irish).
The bond-holders includes us and our pensions and investments. Not honouring our promises would be a bad idea.
All the EU gave us was sound advice, structural funds and an open market.

I think the point for me is that the kind of people who would fund a Brexit or an Irexit don’t care if we all live in crap as long as they are on the top of the heap.

That headline doesn’t mean what you seem to think it means. The story is a week old and the EU 27’s position remains the same – no hard border.

Jesús, any halfwit can obey orders, sure they’re well used to taking orders from their stretches in the slammer. Don’t be a spud all your life.
