‘She Was Our Hero’

Irish Traveller rights’ activist Nan Joyce, who was the first Traveller to run for a Dáil seat in November 1982, died last night.

She ran in Dublin South West and won 581 votes in 1982.

She has gone to a place where fierce indignation may no longer lacerate her heart. Well, we hope such a place does exist. May she rest in peace. A truly great woman and one of the team who started this nations journey from darkness to the light.
